The FA should approach Conte to take over the national team after the Euros. His Italy team were very good in Euro 2016. They lost to Germany in penalties. Given the current English talent particularly in fullbacks, I think Conte can help them reach a whole new level.

Great shout and very sensible - but that goes against the public’s demand for an Engurlish man to lead the Brexit lions to success.

Ashley is determined to sell the club and the feeling among some of the first team players at NUFC is he’s working as hard as he’s ever done to get the takeover to go through. This from a person very close to a player at the club.

Cheltenham fan in peace today [emoji38]

“CTFC fan here. Looking forward to our games next season. I was at our only previous meeting in the League Cup second round years ago when Le Tallec scored an extra time winner for you lads.”

I love how a ‘Cheltenham fan’ manages to recall the scorer of an injury time winner for the opposition during a second round League Cup tie from 2005. Just rolls off the tongue.

Alongside calling them ‘lads’, almost as if that’s how they refer to themselves.

It’s such a weird thing to do. That whole forum probably shares as many IP addresses as chromosomes in the Stadium of Light population.

Did they sack him? I thought it was mutual. Got the impression he was done and potentially not sold on the direction they were going. Wasnt he after more investment?

I assumed it was one of those “mutual agreement” sackings. Might be wrong with that, overall point still stands though.

As mentioned in my post, Man Utd has finished top 3 only three times since Sir Alex retired - two of those are the full seasons under OGS. He has the third best record of any Man Utd manager through history. Those are the irrefutable facts of the situation. I would not throw the die and change manager if I was Man Utd looking at those numbers. Van Gaal didn't get Man Utd into the top three. People are forgetting just how shit Man Utd were after Sir Alex.

We’ll not agree - so we’ll leave it there, as it’ll probably become tedious for everyone else

However, I’ve enjoyed our exchange and welcome healthy debate - no need to get heated though.

As mentioned in the comments, some of those aren't even correct. And also, they're of no consequence. The results at the end of a season are what matters. Positive win records mean nothing either if they are off-set by tons of losses otherwise. Hence why my post referenced actual results, not records.

Exactly - results matter. And the only results OGS has achieved is two top four finishes.

Getting to a Europa League final by beating some very poor sides, isn’t particularly worthwhile if you make incredibly poor decisions in the final (against the 7th best team in Spain).

Who remembers great sides by how many semi finals they reach ffs?

Third best record in Man Utd managerial history, five semi-finals and one final since he took over. Since Sir Alex retired, Man Utd have only finished in the top 3 three times, with OGS leading the team in two of them.

Nope, the facts and evidence point the other way. Yes, there's been runs without wins, but on the grand scale those runs have not done much to his actual numbers. If you took the winning runs and losing runs and spread them normally across a season, neither one would be a talking point. The end all is that OGS is perceived poorly because he came straight to Man Utd from a "lesser" side and hadn't earned his stripes in the PFM merry-go-round and has thoughts above his station, we can't have that, get him out. Let's stick Pochettino in there, who has less honors on his resume just because he's managed in the PL before.

Man Utd could recruit from League Two for all I care. If after 2.5 seasons they’ve got nothing to show for it other than “spirit” and culture. I think people would be right to ask questions.

Some quick appointments work (Guardiola, Gerrard) and some don’t (Lampard, OGS). Man Utd aren’t the first to make an appointment like this and won’t be the last.

We’ll see if he ever delivers this success you claim he’s building. Time will tell.

Aye but City finished 100 points that season, Man-U were never ever in it

At the turn of this year Man-U were in it

Man City were 8th at the turn of the year, the whole top 10 were in it.

Again, for the record, I don't particularly like OGS. He's an ex-Molde manager and ex-Man Utd player above all else. I just get annoyed to fuck at idiotic views that are based on pettiness and not reality, would be the same for any club/manager.

Seems a bit pathetic to call them ‘idiotic views’.

They’re also opinions built on facts and evidence, such as the poor records he’s smashed and lack of winning, rather than ‘pettiness’ and ‘not reality’.

That's not the merits Man Utds leadership or their fans are measuring him towards, though. You're essentially acting like the pundits talking about Rafa playing defensive shit football and NUFC fans disliking that and we should want a more attacking manager because we're Newcastle. When you're a Newcastle fan that opinion makes no sense.

It's fairly obvious the main consideration that led to the OGS appointment was that they wanted a return to a style closer to the Sir Alex years and they got that, they got multiple broken positive records and a manager with a better league record than any manager they've had since Sir Alex. It's not hard to understand why Man Utd fans are pleased with feeling like "their" club is back. Now, that honeymoon period of restoration does not last forever and OGS needs to deliver more and more each year.

At the end of the day, he's done remarkably well at Man Utd - all that is missing is a trophy.

“Remarkably well”  Howay man. Your Norwegian allegiances are making you say some silly things.

As I’ve said multiple times, if Man Utd fans are happy with finishing 2nd - 4th every season, never winning a trophy but having good ‘spirit’. Good on them. Just seems bizarre they don’t want to be competitive.

For me it’s a great result keeping OGS, Man Utd remaining impotent would be delicious.

Ultimately Man-U want to win the league and arguably they are closer now than they have ever been since Fergie left, that is progress

Are they? I don’t think they have any chance of getting anywhere near the title under OGS.

    They haven’t so far.

They also finished on 81 points in 2nd place under Mourinho, better than OGS’s 74 this season.

You're saying a better manager than one straight from managing their youth team couldn't have won the treble with that Barcelona side then? Michael Laudrup was the first choice, he had a lot more on his resume so surely he'd be the better option for them at the time if they wanted to win.

Must be desperate to support OGS if we’re getting to the point of trying to guess what might happen in totally hypothetical situations with other clubs.

I wouldn’t have appointed Guardiola personally, no. But they did and he provided a sensational first season and has gone on to be one of (if not the) greatest managers in the world.

OGS has had 2.5 seasons and has won nothing apart from qualifying for the CL.

  14. 2 minutes ago, Kaizero said:

Of course I am, OGS had a ton more merits to take the Man Utd job than Guardiola had when he got the Barcelona job.

Guardiola won a treble in his first season in charge.
