I expect todays results will not go our way. We’re in for a tough period but need to keep hanging in for a chance of Europe next season
-
Being realistic, I would be astonished if we did it this season. There’s too much competition, and we haven’t improved enough. I’m adjusting my hopes, and will probably enjoy the season a bit more now.

We’re not getting top 4. Maybe top 6.

Okay, so I missed the match so I can’t comment on the performance, but we’ve thrown away a lot of leads this season so far. The psychology of doing that vs clawing our way to a draw is what I think angers me the most. I was also very happy with our transfer business in the summer but you could be forgiven for thinking that the strategy doesn’t match up to what the manager wants to do with the team. The fullback situation is getting ridiculous. What are Hall and Livramento there for?

Schar could do a job up top

I’m a member that was lucky enough to get a ballot for the PSG game, sitting in the Leazes corner. I have always been a singer/stander at the match and when I had my ST in the Gallowgate during the noughties loads of ST holders sat on their fucking hands. Back then I remember a lass knitting and another woman in front of me that chain smoked through every match. As far as I can tell the atmosphere is up and down and has been since then. I think one of the main thing that drives the noise is the psychology of the match beforehand. PSG was a game we didn’t expect to win, but everyone was ready to support. Last night sounded like the sort of PL game where the expectation is that we would win (vs a wolves or forest or something). So I don’t think it’s just the members issue because some of us who go will make lots of noise. I think if the expectation is that we should win, the crowd waits for the team, and responds to that. When the expectation is that we will be up against it, it tends to be louder. We also have an absolutely shite songbook.

Champions League 2023/2024: Group F (Newcastle, Milan, Dortmund, PSG)

Some belters there! -
I could only tell by way of TV but I think this is spot on. I think I even expected us to win a little myself and I’m usually level headed. Did feel a bit like people were waiting for it to catch fire rather than the atmosphere driving the team. Dortmund did well to keep it quiet right enough, but we’re not really a crowd that keeps up the noise when things aren’t going our way.

Interesting, felt a lot more balanced in attack. Edit - responding to @KaKa above

Did we go 4231 in the last quarter? Wasn’t sure what our shape was.

Don’t be fucked, don’t be fucked, don’t be fucked

Poor guy. Could have done with his energy and enthusiasm. We’re dropping like flies
-
Incredibly frustrating game. They were ultimately the better side in attack and defence. Gordon was great, not going to launch into a tirade about others, but a few of them didn’t perform. I can’t believe we didn’t vary the fucking corners.
-
Woods is fucking magnificent man
-
He’s absolutely class, shame he got down for the goal, but been our best player so far.
-
Is better than he’s showed tonight. Just needs to release it quicker
-
They’ve matched us in physicality and been the better side going forward. We’re lucky to be one down.
-
HTL, let’s do these

Are we hoping for a draw in the other fixture tonight? -

My top 5 that I’ve been to 1) Newcastle vs PSG (4-1) 2) Newcastle vs Man Utd (4-3) - 2001 3) Sunderland vs Newcastle (0-1) - 2002 4) Newcastle vs Brentford (5-1) - 2022 - first match with my son 5) Newcastle vs Chelsea (1-2 - FA Cup Semi) - despite the loss, I have such vivid memories of being there with my sister -
Let’s just make @LFEE’s gaff the forum party mansion for anyone going to the match from out of town.

I have to agree. You look around the league and there’s not a lot I would take. Alisson, maybe Martinez.
-
Who told us anything like? Most of it has been pure guesswork and speculation in the Italian press. The facts of this have been scarce from the start, so no need to say he’s been deceiving us at all.

Didn’t get to watch the game yesterday but noticed him popping up in the middle. Wonder if this is a tactic we’re going to see when we play Murphy and Murph can hold the width and deliver a killer ball from wide, where as Miggy would come in and create the overload there. I don’t want to be that guy, but he absolutely could play midfield if need be.
