First half he was different gravy. Second he dropped off a bit, much like those around him.

We seemed to be caught in two minds in the second half. If we’d dropped into a low block I reckon that finishes 4-1. Instead we seemed to be willing to sit deep while trying to play, and we just ended up shooting ourselves in the foot repeatedly. A great three points but a frustrating performance. It felt like we could’ve ran through them and we ended up hanging on.

I think people are jumping the gun. It doesn’t mean anything yet (unless we’ve had a sizeable sponsorship offer knocked back, in which case we could conceivably go after the PL for compensation). It bodes well that the same panel are looking at the updated but equally bodged APT rules from last year. There were only a couple of token changes made to address the obvious and immediate problems the old one had. You’d imagine you can drive a bus through the current version too. This is a war of attrition. The end game will come when the PL can’t be arsed to fight in court anymore. Give it another 12-18 months before we get some much softer rules.

The problem Longstaff has is that you don’t notice him when he’s playing well. He doesn’t have the same levels to his game that Bruno and Tonali have, he’s never going to be a highlight reel player. But when he’s on it he really helps hang the midfield together by being the person who does the unsexy stuff. The flip side of that is that when he has a shitter it’s really obvious. Not only is he crap, but we’re usually getting battered too. I’ve no idea why a local lad who has played a pivotal role in the progress of this club over the last few years gets so much hate. But then there’s a huge amount I don’t understand about some of the entitled fuckers that ‘support’ us.

I’ll not have this slander. The 98-99 away kit looked absolutely lush. Yes, it clicked like fuck the minute you put it on but it looked beautiful. Shame I associate it with such shit football. Less arsed about the 97-98 shirt, but I can see how a modern iteration could be a bit of a cult hit. Off-centre sponsor is really unique and colour scheme wasn’t dreadful.
