Would be unfair on the region if we didn't get a game. Leeds is close to Manchester which will no doubt have 2 stadiums as venues and I'm sure Liverpool will be also.
  2. We will lose, but as another poster has said this a a free hit so I wont be too bothered. In a couple of years we should be in a position where losing any game will bother me. We are just not there yet. I would hope for a good performance though.

The Don is probably the greatest Sunderland comedy character of all time. Hoodwinked them into thinking he was going to save their club, got them as slave labourers to fix the pink seats, kept them in league one for 4 years, humiliated them on an international scale on Netflix, then hoodwinked them again into thinking he had sold the club to a child when he was still actually in charge. I bet even Mike Ashley is actually in awe of him.

No idea how the intense side of the rivalry began. As other posters have said my Grandad used to watch us one week at home and them the next week. Even up to the time he passed away in 2006 he said he supported all north east teams. When I started going to the matches properly with mates rather than my old man away fans were banned cos of trouble at the matches so something obviously had changed drastically in those 20 or 30 odd years.

They have won the European Cup. There is no comparison

It is absolutely staggering that their stadium has bins and toilets and they are incapable of using either. Need to throw their litter on the pitch and shit in the stands.
  7. Probably be the signing that keeps us up. He was absolutely class last night. Now give him more of a supporting cast in the summer....
  8. I'd put Carver higher. Calling out the fans for a fight
  9. 2-1. Electric atmosphere. Wish I was going to be there.

They would be miles better off with a young up and coming manager in the lower leagues who is in tune with the modern game, however they are clamouring for Keane some reason. The result of this is that whichever young up and coming manager they do bring in (as Keane has obviously decided a comfy TV studio is a better option than the racist infested crisp packet bowl) will be booed from the off and doomed to failure. Fabulous

I think they are actually at the point where Kevin Phillips wouldn't want to leave South Shields for them. Probably got enough money in the bank. Why would he want to join that basket case of a club and ruin his managerial career?
  14. Please no. Bloke did well here and shall remain a positive part of our history, like KK and SBR. Let's leave it at that.
  15. Agree with a lot of what has been said. His style has probably not kept up with the times, but it still has a place in the game. The Everton budget certainly did not help. Also, they always say that as a manager if you lose the fans you have no chance. He had lost the fans before he had even started because of his Liverpool connection. Basically he had no chance.

Netflix has been great for them. They have gone from being on holiday and being asked who do you support: 'Sunderland' 'Who?' 'It is near Newcastle' To 'Sunderland 'Who?' 'We are that shit team on Netflix'.

I actually thought they played quiet well all things considered. They are an average league one club playing against a premier league team. It does however cement the fact that they are indeed an average league one club and are going to bouncing around that league or the lower end of the championship for quite some time to come.
  18. Pointless worrying about this one. 16/ 17 of the teams in the league would write this fixture off. Anything we get or a good performance is a bonus.
  19. The fact is that the quality and money spent in the premiership and top end of the championship has been increasing year on year. English football is so competitive now that the top championship teams are also spending big and have premier league quality squads, meaning when they come up they are already better than us. We on the other hand have stagnated. We managed to get away with it for years but it has now finally caught up with us. What we are seeing now is the result of years of neglect and poor management. I honestly don't think we are going to stay up this year. Even buying 7 or 8 players in January it may be too late. It will take time to form a team from those signings. I am not worried about being relegated as I know we will come straight back up. I am starting to think it may actually be the best thing for us. We talk about the takeover as a new beginning but maybe going back down, clearing out the deadwood, getting the place buzzing winning every week, coming back up on a high and building a squad to challenge might be real new start. Hopefully come roaring back into the premier league like under KK! Also I would rather we didn't panic buy in January and get short term signings in the hope of staying up who end up stinking the place out. We need to focus long term.
  20. Easiest potential 3 points of the season against the worst team in the league. New manager bounce.... and that tool gets sent off within 10 minutes. He should never play for us again.
  21. Nervous about that one. Starting to miss the years when I didn't give a shit . On a serious note, absolutely must win. I think we will do it but it won't be easy. I imagine a scrappy game but at home in a night game with a good atmosphere we will win. 1-0.
  22. 1-0. Woke up with a feeling that this is the turning point.

Let him be. Everyone takes up a hobby in retirement. Usually golf, hill walking, more time with the grandkids. His just happens to be scrutinizing the accounts of NUFC and posting his (always incorrect) findings on RTG
