I was working in London a few years ago and talking to a spurs fan, remember him telling me he was at a game where we were playing then at SJP - we were winning and they were peppering shot after shot. He said there was about ten minutes left and he just left saying “we’re not gonna beat Given today”. We did win that game apparently.

Speaking to some Sunderland supporting family of mine - it’s mainly down to getting structure and an identity about their play but mainly tightening up the defence. Eight clean sheets then only conceding a single goal for another three games out of your first 14 games will give you every chance to pick up points.

At the same time 4 of their last 5 games have been away games and there’s only one team picked up more points than them in those 5 games. You can only beat the teams in front of you and after the way they finished last season to have a new manager come in and basically transform their defence so they’re keeping so many clean sheets regardless of the opposition is plenty for them to be happy about.

I mean does Lewis hall get any credit or is it all Eddie?

If we were top of the league after 14 games and people were saying 10 out of 14 were against poor opponents we’d be saying they’re just idiots so why say it yourself?

Just been at work and got in, saw we’re winning so logged on here and read nothing but things like “fucking pope”, “get schar off ffs”

But they’re not so we didn’t

We’re also 6 points from 17th and I honestly can’t see where our next win is coming from at the moment.

Not saying he’sa world beater but stubborn refusal to play players like him and Lewis for a long time will be Howes downfall for me eventually.

Problem is we’ve been waiting 5 games for the counter

Oh well if it’s not that easy let’s just not try then. We spent too much time and effort on a few players who it was very unlikely were ever going to come to us anyway. At least we’ve had success in this market before

Same here mate, I’ve never once slagged him off as he was part of that team that won a lot of games and climbed up the table.

This is howes biggest / possibly only fault for me, the way he holds some players back - if he can address that going forward then I believe he can become an even better manager.

He scored 49 out of 144 aps for Burnley then came to us and struggled. Went to Forest where he’s on 22 out of 47. That indicates to me that when he was here the problem might not have been him. Oh and New Zealand he’s on 36 out of 78.

Agreed - the best of the best managers can rebuild when they need to, if I said to you Man U’s striker under fergie was one of the best you’d ask which one. Imo Tripps, Wilson, Miggy and Longstaff should have went if we got offers. I may end up changing my mind in the next few weeks with tripps I feel as I reckon he’ll be getting more minutes soon.

Opened this thread to see what’s going on and glad to see people defending him, the lad waited patiently last season for a go and seems to have a great attitude, he’s just 20 and I can’t recall losing many games when he’s played the bulk of them yet people just load on him, baffles me to be honest.
