  1. As a football fan in the UK, I couldn't name that many punters outside of New England, but I could name you Pat McAfee. But I agree, he's better known for things he's done since being a punter. His meteoric rise was always on the cards, though. His charisma and personality was evident as a player. That's why every NFL fan knew of him. Those gifts and qualities have subsequently led to stardom in the media.
  2. Apologies if this has been posted and discussed, but I saw this during a morning browse... Amanda Staveley is alleged to have failed to repay a loan of more than £35m that dates back to over a decade...? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/06/23/newcastle-united-owner-amanda-staveley-bankruptcy-row/
  3. Just seen it. Read it in a half pissed state
  4. Justin Kluivert to Bournemouth...
  5. Doesn't Camavinga double up as a LB? After this year, I think Kroos and Modric will move on. So 4 CMs to fill 3 positions isn't bad at all.
  6. And pointed out to him with all facts present, you'd hope that he would have that moment of realisation. But many of these places have fairly large compounds or enclosures and on the face of it, are no worse than zoos that we are accustomed to in the UK. Add the BS about hand rearing and conservatism that these institutions often feed customers, and you can see the naivety of thinking "no harm in a quick photo". It's without question wrong, but I can make allowances for naivety. He will no doubt learn from the imminent backlash, both in general and about these specific institutions.
  7. I think, now at 32, I made many mistakes between 18-23 (particularly) that I look back on and think "fuck me, I should have seen that or done better". Christ knows what I'd have been like with a few more thousand a week on my wage, and the opportunity that brings about.
  8. This had me howling Agree with what's been said by many, though. Hate these places. Unfortunately I didn't realise the conditions they are kept in until about 4-5 years ago. Pure naivety on my part. The kid is 22. There's still a lot of maturity to be had and growth to be made. If someone say him down and "opened his eyes" to how these centres are run, he'd probably be mortified. At least that's my hope...
  9. Aye, but historically they had the greatest ever throwing the ? and the greatest coach to ever grace the game... Rant from @Shak in 3... 2... 1... I'm glad I'm not in swinging distance
  10. Maguire comes in for a lot of unfair stick. He has weaknesses, for sure. Slow decision making, a lack of pace, and not phenomenal on the ball to name three. Still a good player for the right team. But I don't see how he fits our playing style. He's too slow for our high back line and I don't see him making the diagonal balls Schar is capable of (i.e. pass to Joelinton Vs Spurs). I think the next CB we bring in will be quicker and will come in for Schar when we are facing certain opposition.
  11. 192,000€ a week, if you believe the internet...
  12. Nee chance in my.opinion. He won't give up on the record to go there.. If he goes abroad, it's Madrid or maybe Barca. Don't think Bayern would tempt him, too.
  13. Made me uneasy too but we need a CB. One injury to either Schar or Botman and we're screwed.
  14. Scary to think our bench options (of note) would be: Dubravka Burn Schar Targett Longstaff ASM Gordon Anderson Murphy Almiron Wilson
  15. Invite the winner to the end of season do I'm apparently organising for @Rich if it's Big Joe, we can get him a taxi back
  16. I only wish I could be in Newcastle mate!! Happy to arrange an end of season piss up though?
  17. Good signing. Takes Burn from LB and technically gives us a 2nd choice LB and 4th choice CB. Still seeing us bringing in #2/3 choice CB to compete with Schar. Wouldn't be surprised if Lascelles and Targett are moved on...
  18. With Top 4 and CL all but confirmed, it's time to break the cheque book out. Time for 5-6 quality signings and 2-3 outgoings.
  19. You're all forgetting Joselu. He's a starter for Spain
  20. BBC reporter after asking questions about Champions League (and Eddie refusing to bite twice). "How close do you need to be Eddie before we get you to talk about it (CL)?" "When it's done, then I'll talk about it for fun". What a lad.
  21. Aye and Cisse's purple patch after joining us was a fun 8-9 games. Golden. Still my favourite song to sing on the terrace too Wilson certainly had consistency on his side.
  22. He has Ba and Cisse as the closest competition....?
  23. We are on 69 points after 36 games. If Liverpool win, they go to 68 points with 37 played. We would need a win to be 100% sure. If Man Utd then lose, they are 66 points after 36 played. With our far superior GD (25 up) we're effectively 4 points clear of Man Utd. They'd have to win their final 2 to get 72 and we'd have to get 3 points, same as we need now. So nothing really changes. Liverpool lose, it's over. They get a point Vs Villa, they'd be on 66 points and we would need 1 point.
