Barnes had plenty of time at Leicester, and he never showed what Gordon can for us and that’s the build up play and ball retention. Barnes has been a goal getter which is great, but restricts his involvement. Like we’ve seen enough times with him when he’s not in a game, he’s proper not in it. At least with Gordon it’s more the product is misfiring instead of being non-existent. Think it says a lot that despite his output, clubs were not falling over him and he had just one the England cap.

Anything longer beyond this season we lose money and still have to sell someone anyway this coming summer. It’s a L, but one pinned on previous running of the club.

The new model will be to have more youth / raw talent on bench, and it being the coach to maximise them. Got to have depth that way. If Howe isn’t fully keen on that, he’ll make it known in cryptic ways, but then that will be the signalling of the end. Like Anderson / Minteh should’ve been strong depth this season, but had to move them on because of someone like Barnes, who the coach has shown to not really know how to maximise.

This summer will be the window to cash in, should be a reasonable £30m+ available because of his proven output, and we should cash in if we need money to invest elsewhere.

Feel after Arsenal game, was when we went through this. Followed it up with an iffy first half against Forest, but then clicked 2nd and won. International break, then a pathetic display 2nd half against West Ham after being wasteful, and whatever that shit which was served up against Palace where we had one shot but still nearly won Like we could win tonight, then follow up next 3 with 4 points again and it’s same position. So consistently average

We will try to win, there’s no doubt effort will be there IMO. It’s just a question of: Will we make any silly mistakes? Probably. Will we still be dysfunctional in midfield with a flat three and played around? Likely. Will we be clinical? Doubtful. Arsenal game is benchmark, but even that game, Arsenal were weak and didn’t push it. Rice header late on was a sitter. Can’t see Liverpool being as meek as Arsenal were in that game.

Either some minnow we’ve never faced or rarely ever do away (I.e Harrogate) or anyone at home. That’s my preference. Worse case, is any prem side away. Boring game, where we’re 2nd best to win it.

Want to be optimistic, but their pace up top will just destroy our CBs. Coupled with the one twos around our flat midfield, it’s going to be tough. Only success relies on them being off it with finishing and final ball, and us being clinical. Which none of this season points too.

December/January will be miserable, top off with being battered by Arsenal or Liverpool in League Cup SF. Then we will hit some run in March onwards, that coincides with a FA Cup QF exit away to one of the big sides, and we end season 9th with a shrug of the shoulders.

Sad it last season with Hall, but I turned out to be wrong so may be again. But if he’s not getting minutes, he needs to either be featuring for u23s or go out on loan in January (that wasn’t an option for Hall). Probably different to Hall as he’s older, at 21 he should be playing a lot more football than he is currently otherwise he’s being stunted. 18 slightly different, can argue training with first team is more beneficial if you’ve got the talent which turned out to the case with Hall.

That’s all fair and valid, but does smacks loads of head in sand and ignore what’s happening during the games when they say “but sadly we conceded a last-minute goal and got an away point”, makes it sound like it was an unfortunate game
