I feel if Wolte really settles in over this next period to next break and he effectively makes himself a key player this early, it’ll give Howe more emphasis to go 4-4-1-1 and our future transfer targets changes. Like another striker could be on the cards, or someone who’s good playing off the striker centrally. Ramsey for example is more than capable of being a LM option in that if Barnes goes next summer, so the signings this summer are capable of playing it (Elanga too on RM). I’d be really excited for a 4-4-1-1 (which is near enough a 4-4-2). Think the key is getting some pace in defence though for recovery, so it would need Tino back fit. Thaiw / Botman central can be very strong.

Felt like in attack, he fitted us as he was in the box and we got to ball to him quick, out of possession, he didn’t fit us. Now we have Wolte, it feels the opposite. But if we get the attack in tune with him, he’ll be superb. Once our attack clicks, any good striker in our side will score 15+ league goals easily. Age was against Wilson, but Solanke moved for £50m+ after a season like Wilson had.

I was thinking last night that with his price tag, defenders will want to prove a point against him even more now and be aggressive to win the battles, in a way of “I’m going to show you are not worth that and show my value”. The real top players back it up and win the battles as that’s their personality, but I’m not sure Isak has that mindset? If someone is crunching into him, I can see him go missing more than normal.

It’s 50/50. You don’t want a DoF who end of day is swayed by Howe to spend £50m on prem players. Has to be give and take, need to sign some lower cost players and Howe working with them and backed to be giving time to improve them, whilst also going over his head and selling players that are not in core 15 of squad.

Played a ball similar to that for Elanga at weekend. Something we will see more off this season IMO as Elanga has the speed to get on the end of those where you need to put more pace on the ball to break the line and players speed to get onto it makes it look perfection.

As I've said before, don't really care about DoFs, just as long as they're not guys that have a baked reputation for bloating out squads. He seemingly has a middling reputation, which would point to he just gets the job done so hopefully we can get some consistency going now. Need to get deals lined up ready for january, as we can be very active moving in and out players that window if we want. This will likely be a transition season, so at least players can get embedded for a few months.

He really does need to start adding goals to his game more for the positions he gets into. Just hasn’t improved his striking / finishing ability as much as I’d hoped he’d do by now.

Real Madrid or Man City would be my bets now for Guehi. Feels Liverpool have missed the boat on him, similar to us previously. Very rarely do sides target a player so heavily one summer (publicly miss out), then get them the next summer.

Tonali, Botman and Tino are all deals that need doing by spring. Next season it’s then Hall and Bruno G.

With Joelinton, it’s also opposition teams know he’s a weak link for us so will exploit it more. Get around him early, he’ll do daft shit and if it’s an early yellow, his game is done. So it won’t always be because he’s off it, but because he’s facing more attacks than before, so with his age will naturally come off worse more. Teams are not going to target Tonali side for example.

How our wingers can regularly cross to back post, if they’re smarter in how they attack the back post, they should be scoring more as season goes on. Murphy against Wolves attacked the back post quite well, bit poor in execution, but he was showing the right instinct that all our wingers need to do all game and every attack. Peak Pep sides are always a prime example for this and the easy goals that come from it.

Bit of a selective overview of his game, but the clip at 30 seconds and the final one is his positives. Essentially need to play the ball into him quicker when there’s space for him to turn / run into.

Bruno G Trippier Isak Wilson just misses out. Isak is rightly slagged off, but we signed him for £60m, he scored back to back 20+ in Prem and we sold for a league record. That’s a definition of a great buy, just how it ended (and it not all on our terms) sours the view. But hopefully come end of next summer window, we can view it as a massive turning point that’s allowed club to kick on.

Think a lot of that is how we play, we’re inside our half and that pass is forward to Elanga feet. Would like to see Trippier turn it over the opposition full back more when he has Elanga on his side. You do notice the difference though in the pass forward as Burn doesn’t have the confidence / ability to do same to burn when put under pressure unlike Trippier. One thing Trippier needs to snap out of for me is his stupid throws. Every game he will a couple of times just throw it straight to the opposition For an experienced player, it’s strange.

Howe alluded to before window closed he’d want one more (and it not Wissa). That to me implied a full back as that was the area we were lightest in the squad. Would fully expect to have one lined up to come in first week of Jan.

Really weird start to his career, and I do think his confidence has took a knock which is resulting in his indecisive play. At Forest, he’d be beating his man and getting shots away. Times yesterday, he was going backwards or just hitting byline, rarely ever came inside. We don’t help by not releasing him when his body position is prepped for a run behind though, so over time he stops doing that and comes deeper to get ball. It’s like we’re stuck in two ways with him. Want to use him like we do Murphy, yet being a completely different type in their final third output.
-
He played some good passes from deep that won’t be picked up because of how crap Forest were then in final third. He’s mustard and will be moving on in summer.
-
Yea. And I’d say hopefully we have conviction to make the moves earlier moving forward if the talent is there.

Short term is 2-4 weeks, long term is 4+ months. So effectively he’s out till November internationals?
