 You wanna move as fast as you can to get a guy that can't win promotion from the Championship. Especially when you're fucking headed to said division.

"Steve McClaren is not on the brink of being sacked today by Derby County.

"He had a two-hour meeting last night with the club's chief executive Sam Rush - described as positive and open. But McClaren's rumoured departure was not discussed.

"I understand it was spelt out to the head coach that there will be tough discussions ahead after Derby's promotion charge faded away - but a parting of the ways or any compensation was not on the agenda.

"Rush and McClaren have an excellent working relationship and the head coach still has two years left on his contract."

Derby would be mad to sack him before Sunday with us seemingly so desperate to take him on.

The sensible move is to keep him on and see if we'll offer compensation, and then only sack him on Monday (if indeed that's what they want to do) after our fate is decided.

:anguish: Theres fans on twitter saying SMC is the man to take us on from three horrendous seasons and have us playing the brilliant football he has at derby.

The thick muppets are going to flock back next season and fully buy into the 'Ashley will change' lies

Sky with a different apprehension from BBC's...

"Steve McClaren is set to leave his post as Derby manager later on Friday, Sky sources understand.

McClaren and his agent met with the club's chief executive Sam Rush and director Mel Morris on Thursday night, but no agreement was reached.

Derby are unhappy with McClaren's refusal to publicly rule himself out of taking over at Newcastle after the Premier League club made an approach for him in January and again last month.

It is understood Morris, a Derby businessman, will soon hold a majority share in the Rams and become club chairman.

Morris blames McClaren and the Newcastle speculation for Derby's poor finish to the season, which saw them go from top of the Sky Bet Championship in March, to missing out on the play-offs altogether when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Reading on the final day of the season.

Further discussions between Derby and McClaren's representatives will take place on Friday, to try to agree a departure deal. McClaren still has two years left on his contract."

No way do I want McLaren to be in charge next season.

However, he would be a better appointment for us (i.e. Mike Ashley) if we are still a Premier League club rather than a Championship club.  Mr Average for a mid-table team in the Premier League but 2 failed promotion seasons with one of the best squads in the Championship implies he would not be good choice if we are relegated and want a quick return.

A lot of unjust McClaren hate here. Has a better CV than most premier league managers.

Yeah and there's quite a few bad ones in the Premier League as well, which means that we can/should find better options outside.
