Couple of more defeats and we'll be near the relegation zone so Ashley's opinion about The Big Head could change pretty quickly.

Couple more wins and we'll be near the european zone so try to calm your knee jerking ways as usual sir  :cheesy:

Can someone post the article please?

Ta.

TOON WON'T TAKE A CHANCE ON SHEARER

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has reportedly ruled out sacking Sam Allardyce to replace him with Alan Shearer.

Toon legend Shearer is a massive fan favourite on Tyneside, and the popular choice to take over if Allardyce were to pay the price for yet another under-achieving season by the St James' Park side.

But Ashley says it's not the time to panic, and believes bringing in managerial rookie Shearer is not an option.

A senior source close to Ashley told The News of the World: "Mike wouldn't employ an undergraduate fresh out of business school to run one of his companies, so why would he trust Newcastle to a rookie?

"His view is that you have to trust people. Mike's not here as a flash in the pan owner, he's here for the long term and knows there's no point creating instability by sacking a manager every five minutes."

Meanwhile Allardyce is confident he can turn around Newcastle's fortunes if he is given enough time.

"No. Why should I?" Allardyce told the News of the World when asked if he would resign should the Magpies lose their FA Cup clash with Stoke.

"It is 53 years since they won anything domestically here, so it is a big job to turn this club around.

"I said it would take me three to five years - and I have only been here eight months."

These quotes are in a few papers but Martin Hardy is Newcastle fan so went with his article

Sam Allardyce has issued Newcastle's supporters with a timely reminder that there is no precedence of success at the club in more than half a century.

Allardyce's position is under renewed threat at Stoke today in the third round of the FA Cup, although chairman Chris Mort insists the outcome will not determine the 53-year-old's fate

Allardyce still faces a major fight to win over a set of supporters questioning his appointment, but said: "Nobody's really turned it round before me, have they? It's 53 years since they won anything [major domestic honours]. Kevin Keegan had a right good try and built a great, great team but didn't win anything.

"Bobby Robson started it again, but it took him two years to get going. I think he finished 11th and 11th in his first two seasons. They didn't win anything then either.

"It's a big, big job. That's why I said it would take three to five years, because the quality of player and strength in depth needed to get that sort of success more than once is a big, big job.

"Do I have any regrets about taking over? No, not really. I had the chance before, turned it down and didn't think I'd get another chance because of that, and I'm glad I did.

"I've never pretended it would be anything other than difficult to turn a club like this around into what it wants to be. I am criticised for focusing on stopping our opponents playing. You tell me in whose philosophy that is not important. Was it not Manchester City's philosophy here the other night? Why it's said to me I don't know. It's fictitious nonsense, because it's what everybody does. I haven't done anything wrong yet but if things went wrong, and I felt they were my fault, if that time came round, I would say it and I would go. I don't foresee that time coming round, although I do know that I've got to start winning football matches. You have defining moments. I don't believe this is mine."

Allardyce will hand England striker Michael Owen his first appearance in an FA Cup tie as a Newcastle player, in his third season at St James' Park. He has also been able to keep Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye, ahead of the African Cup of Nations.

Nobody's turned it around before?, what total bollocks :)  Keegan failed did he?, Robson failed?  Well then by fat Sam's standards we should expect to win the league and cup in the next few years or he'll have to admit he's failed.

As to the article and Ashley's so called quotes, this is the News of the World, its like the Viz but not as funny.  I wouldn't believe a thing in there that isn't directly quoted, and even then I'd assume its taken out of context.

And the article is followed up on the following page with a full page opinion article from some prick called Andy Dunn having a massive dig at Ashley and Mort for not backing Allardyce in public, when the article a page earlier said they had stopped doing so because it adds fuel to the fire... It's one thing being fickle enough to contradict yourself week on week but to do it on adjacent pages is an absolute joke. Really have to stop buying it!
