Chris_R
Even now just listening to him speak is amazing. He oozes passion for the game in general, the city of Newcastle, and NUFC. He's got boundless integrity, enthusiasm, energy, everything he says is worth listening to. Honestly I could listen to him talk about football forever. Everything he says is worth listening to. He played 45 games in all competitions for us in 1993/4 scoring 41, and equalled or bettered that appearance level for 3 consecutive seasons for Man U from 1997/8 to 1999/00 but never got more than 25 in a season. He also played 43 games for them in 1995/6, scoring 13. Aside from whether or not he played as regularly, which at times he maybe did not, his strike rate also dropped markedly. His strike rate with us in all competitions was 0.81, but for Man U it was 0.44. Yes he was good for Man U, that's still a very good return, and you can argue he added other things to his game as well if you want, but we clearly saw the best of him in black and white. I know. None of those are full seasons. He was phenomenal in his first season, with Beardsley the perfect partner. At Man U he was required to be a bit more like Beardsley, and Fergie had many other options. He contributed to 5 titles and a Champions League win, amongst others. It's a difficult one to judge, is all I'm saying.

Big Geordie
Regarding Andy Cole's goal record from his time with us - it's unlikely I will see such a thing in my life time again (I'm almost 49) He was a one off.

Have to say I feel our generation was the one of the greatest times, I was devastated from the news, I even lost faith in KK for about a month, but then all was forgiven. Absolute best times to be a young lad??

A right sulky sod, but did a great job for us. His partnership with Beardsley was incredible - I think Beardsley really made Cole's career.

Abacus
Oh, sorry, to get back on topic re KK. Everyone says his second coming was a disaster, but it really wasn't. I still think he'd have done a job here if he'd stayed, but he still did call out Ashley quick, early and with unerring accuracy. Really hope he gets some kind of role back here as an ambassador or whatever.

Sounded as prepostorous as hearing someone say "Cantona's kicked a fan" under the Leazes a week later. Like nearly every sunderland-facing person I knew at my school none went to games and their only identification as mackems was getting excited at some bad news for NUFC. (Keegan going to England, same rumour about our players having affairs etc.) It stung cos of the Gascoigne, Waddle, Beardsley selling club hangover but was completely out of the system a week later after we'd played Man U off the park and won at Blackburn. Think part of the chanting "Keegan wonderland" for an hour after the game was "sorry for ever doubting you" purging. If he'd have stayed, maybe his career would have nosedived. By moving to Man U under Fergie, he got a kick up the ass and pushed on again which might never have happened if he'd have stayed because he'd have gotten comfortable. Also, for all we say he excelled at Man U, he never recaptured the form he had for us. Not even close. "That" season he scored 41 in 45 with 34 in the league, and overall in his time with us he scored 68 in 84. For Man U, that drops to a somewhat less stellar 121 in 275, nowhere near as good, and his best season for them yielded 25 goals in all competitions, only 15 of which were in the league. Maybe Keegan saw a chance to sell him whilst his value was at its highest, knowing that he'd already peaked. He wouldn't have got anywhere near that without Beardsley though. Beardsley helped his career so much, so unselfish, and provided great service, dont get me wrong, Cole did a bit also.
