Guest Heneage
His age should not be held against him and he should be given a chance.
Willow
Should be given a chance ahead of Harper. Yep, well Harpers going to get injured plenty during the season I'm sure, so I think we'll see a whole lot more from krul

Guest Phil K
Frankly, I'd prefer an up and coming prospect like Krul to be first choice in the Chumpionship rather than Harper.

STM
I would start Harper but with this kid in the back of my mind. He's obviously a good prospect and hopefully (well, surely) he will get some sort of chances in the coming season.
Unbelievable
I would start Harper but with this kid in the back of my mind. He's obviously a good prospect and hopefully (well, surely) he will get some sort of chances in the coming season. Expect Krul to want to leave if this is what Shearer & Co (or whoever else will be the manager) have in mind.. Feyenoord will be looking for a new goalkeeper and he is their primary target. He won't want to warm our bench when he could be their No. 1.

Skirge
Tim Krul waiting to grasp his chance at United Jul 8 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE United young gun Tim Krul has admitted he is on red alert as he goes into his first season as understudy to long-serving goalkeeper Steve Harper. The Easington-born shot-stopper has admitted the rapid progress of Dutch youngster Krul and Geordie giant Fraser Forster will always keep him on his toes. After pushing Shay Given all of the way during the Irishman’s decade on Tyneside, Harper knows healthy competition for the gloves at St James’s Park can only be a good thing. Harper goes into the season as United’s No 1, but Krul insists he is ready and waiting. He told the Chronicle from United’s Dublin training camp: “It is good to be involved, and I need to keep on my toes. “There is good competition, and (goalkeeping coach) Paul Barron is a big person for me – he keeps me sharp. “I have been improving myself and last season the gaffer said: ‘Listen, you have to be ready if something happens to Harps’. “I just have to keep focused. I have to keep improving and improving, and showing everyone I am ready.” Krul is likely to have a taste of the action during United’s pre-season fixture list which sees them play games in Eire, Scotland and Holland – not to mention games with Darlington, Huddersfield Town and Leeds United. Like last season, goalkeeping duties are likely to be shared in the friendlies. Speaking on his close pal Harper, Krul – who has had loan spells at Falkirk and Carlisle United – said: “Shay Given was a tremendous player for the club. “Steve moved up to the place where he wants to be, and I moved up to where I want to be at this stage. “We have been working together for the last three years and are good friends and colleagues. We keep each other sharp.” [ http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/07/08/tim-krul-waiting-to-grasp-his-chance-at-united-72703-24103516/
