Though Keegan has said little about the shit pile he took over I see Mort in his Reading program notes suggests the upturn in fortune coincides with the return to fitness of the squad. Pointing out how we don't get slammed in the 2nd half of games.

I have to say although a fan of Allardyce when he arrived I was surprised how we completely faded in the second half.

Yep, still a mystery IMO. He might have been complete and utter gash, but there was where he was definitely supposed to know what he was doing.

the more time goes on, the more it looks like Mort's decision to get rid of Sam was an excellent one.

How many of us were thrilled with his appointment, and how did he make such a balls-up of the job

Of all the strange things about Sam's short reign, the most utterly bewildering for me was that he so obviously failed to get our players to 90 minute fitness.

For a man who was so famous for his 'scientific' approach, it was simply bizarre. Looking back, he probably had a good fitness coach at Bolton who did it for him. Or perhaps he simply spent too much time dabbling in the transfer market and missed the boat in pre season.

...they all just snuck cakes into the dressing room when Sam wasn't looking...

Strange one this, really surprised that Allardyce has done so badly, thought his revolutionary methods would really prove to be a success for the club, maybe its the physical style of football at Bolton under SA that meant they didnt need to be a CV fit as they should of been. Maybe this is why Bolton are struggling to adapt to a knew type of football.

Would be interesting to see how many second half goals Bolton conceeded compared to us.

We've always been a pretty unfit team tbh

Have to disagree with that.  The season where we were turning around scorelines week after week when Robson was here (the 4-3 Leeds season) the squad were fantastically fit

Yeah suppose, but towards the end of the 2003 season we faded alot.

Makes a difference - re: 2nd half fade-outs under Big Sam - when the outfield isn't going through lengthy phases of having chase the ball after needlessly giving up possession via the aimless punt up the park. The difference in styles of play, where we're now more possession & width based all the while keeping the ball on the deck, has played a massive part imo.

Wasn't that due to Bellamy's injury?

Bellamy was fantastic that season.  Even Sir Alex said that if he hadn't gotten injured we might have got the title.

We look fitter in the second half because we aren't just lumping the ball forward and straight back to the opposition all the time.  It's true when they say you have to work a lot harder without the ball than when you have it.

Allardyce didn't do any high-intensity training, apparently.

And the reason no-one was fit was because hardly anyone was playing every game; N'Zogbia, Milner, Butt and Beye were probably the only players to play over 95% of the Allardyce reign, due to his shitty formation, constantly playing people out of position and shuffling the fucking pack every match.
