David Dein anyone? He was mooted last year, good friend of Ashleys's by all accounts

Didn't Dein say he would never get involved with anyone against Arsenal?

Dein is practically back on the Arsenal board anyway as part of one of the takeover attempts there.

Kemsley is rich enough to have his own football club, plus has many other interests. I'd doubt he'd want to work full time at NUFC when it wouldn't concern his investments.

Didn't we recently appoint leisure industry expert Derek Llambias as vice-chairman? And we also have the Newcastle race course guy as a director.

Don't forget that Mort started out as vice-chairman until the club were ready to oust Shepherd.

As a lawyer apparently specialising in business and finance, Mort has been able to work out the main contractual issues and how they relate to the business and financial situation of the club, and has been able to implement some good ideas.

Naivety on the football side has been addressed by installing three directors with various footballing backgrounds. The main day to day issues for Mort, other than the occassional sanctioning of something that probably has to come through Mike Ashley anyway, are all related to the club's role as a leisure business, suggesting that Llambias has been brought here to move the club forward, as Mort has done all he can with his skillset.

you don't want chairman with v good knowledge of football, as they will try to influence the manager and sign/sell players behind their back

ring bells anyone

done a good job behind the scenes, the club was in a complete mess under shepherd, why do ppl think he's done bad?

do u's want to go back to shepherd?? WHERE WE WOULD BE BANKRUPT BY NOW

I always expected him to move over to be a full time NUFC employee to be honest.

Don't know why you'd want to go back into law after having this job.

He must be mad.

His wife has seen him on Youtube pissed up down the Bigg Market, it's home quick or divorce proceedings.

Shame.  He comes across as being a very intelligent person, someone who knows how to run a business.

Done a good job, nothing drastic but has set the foundations.

What would you call drastic? Employing a brand new board, brand new coaching staff, brand new manager (replacing one that had only been brought in a few months prior), bringing Kevin Keegan back to the club...  not drastic enough for you?

I'd say it's been a refreshing change. Whether what Mort's done has been good or bad for the club remains to be seen in my opinion; it's been less than a year since the very first changes were implemented. I don't think we can judge fully his contribution to Newcastle United until we're two or three years down the line.

I've got an inkling, however, that he got away with a bad decision by sacking Allardyce.

That makes no sense to me, especially after the run we went on towards the end of the season under Keegan.

He didn't "get away" with it, really. He replaced Allardyce with the right man at what turned out to be the right time, despite most of our protestations in January, and we stayed up comfortably, playing some very good football and achieving some very good results along the way.

Granted it took a bit of time to get the ball rolling, but I dread to think where we'd be at this point in time had Allardyce not have relieved of his duties.

Aye you're right... i phrased it poorly, Janitor.

What i meant was that; at the time i thought it was a rash, poor decision and it would be detrimental to the club. I didn't think we'd get an adequte replacement, and what's more, i think Allardyce may well have done a decent job in the long run. Using hindsight, he probably wouldn't have done, and Mort got it right.

Agree with you about the media aswell, that's a given.

Aye, only bit I'd disagree with there is the "Allardyce in the long run" bit. He'd already lost the fans and the players were turning on him as well, he was past the point of no return, unfortunately.

Hence the whole 'using hindsight' thing. ;)  At the time though, i still thought he was a good manager in a bad run. Looking back now though, you're right - he was done.

Not to fussed if Mort go's or not, more bothered that we would look like a fkn cirrus again with another Chairman so soon, but it would be a great opportunity to get a popper football person in at the helm..

Chris Mort's future at Newcastle United is in doubt.

The Daily Mail says Newcastle will be hit by more boardroom upheaval during the summer with the expected resignation of chairman Mort.

He has alerted owner Mike Ashley that he wants to return full-time to his former employees, top London law firm Freshfields.

Even Mort wants to go back to London!

good riddance

why? i thought the major shareholder ran the club anyway? wont make any difference who the chairman is surely?

sorry everyone
