Am I the only one seriously doubting that the likes of Hughes, Keane, Bruce etc will even be considered for the Man U job once Fergie leaves? It's not like they are gonna be short of options. More or less every manager in the world would probably except it since I reckon most people see it as the biggest job in the EPL and since the EPL is the best league well therefor maybe even the biggest job the world. I can't see them choosing the likes of Hughes or Bruce over the likes of Hiddink or Lippi.

Hiddink and Lippi are both 60 somethings who would prefer to be on the international scene.

There are no obvious candidates for that job. Imo the front runner most be Carlos so Hughes has a fair chance if he strives forward with Man City.

Hughes has done ok but beyond the hype, I'm not sure he's cut out for a top team. Who's to say he won't turn out another Allardyce?

This is what I think.

He should stay with Blackburn. They gave him a great chance to establish himself and he's done well, he would be foolish to leave his safety net right now incase things go tits up at a top club.

He's got the chance to establish Blackburn in the UEFA Cup. He might be a bit annoyed with a lack of funds but he's shown himself more than capable of spotting a good bargain.

It's a little thing called Ambition, Obviously Man City job is a lot bigger than the Blackburn job.

Personally I think this would be a great move for Man City, and hughes will see it as a nice stepping stone to the job he really wants. Not having managed a big club could go against him, when Ferguson retires.

Allardyce going to Blackburn would also be a great move for them. Despite his failings with us, you can't fault his track record at Bolton, Balckburn are a different kettle of fish to us and it'll probably suit him down to the ground.

Yes, it is ambition, ambition to make money. That would be the only plus of going to Man City, a better contract than he's on now I bet.

If I was Hughes, I would be looking at how Sven has just been fired, despite still achieving a UEFA Cup place.

I took Hiddink and Lippi as examples. I might as well have taken anyone else from abroad with a world class reputation.

Allardyce always had that question mark hanging over his head of whether he could manage a big club and whether he would change his style. He came up short and it has damaged his reputation.

Hughes has achieved pretty much all he can at Blackburn. He may stay longer like Bruce did when we came knocking and lose his stock. He may have already stayed too long and end up jumping at any chance to manage a bigger club (like Curbs).

Difficult decision. Man. City are in that UEFA cup band of 6 or so teams.. the Evertons all the way down to us.. financially it seems West Ham and Blackburn are the weakest members of that group and could soon fall out.

Big decision.

Id disagree with that - cant remember Allardyce ever having a question mark hanging over his head, i always got the impression that he needed to test his skills at a bigger club becasue Bolton couldnt match his ambitions. Id also think its fair to say he didnt come up short at NUFC and that his rep hasnt been damaged in the world of football - he was given 22 games and left the club in 11th position(?). No sane football analyst could find any substantial evidence in those 22 games to suggest that he;d of been a guaranteed failure here.

Only Nufc fans have a real idea of what went on here and even we dont know how things would of turned out, we just know that his football and philosiphy didnt fit into nufcs traditions and something needed to be done.

This is a no brainer for Hughes - he'd be at a club which has all the tools to break the top 4 and if he stayed at Blackburn it'd be a disastorous decision.

Money is not the driving force for Hughes here. It's about improving his CV. Getting struck in the backwater that is Blackburn is a real danger for him. He'll feel he needs the test of a big club, working with a big transfer pot and managing bigger expectation.

If they make him an offer, I doubt  that he'll need much time think about it. And I don't think he's wrong to. Although the owner is completely mad, he's in a win/win situation, financially he'll do well and protect himself against the chop, if he fails a big mitigation will be the lunacy of the owner, so his reputation will stay in tact. If he succeeds he'll come out of it looking great, done a better job than Sven despite the owner issues.

Personally, I think he's a great young manager, hated his as a player but you've got to respect what he's done at blackburn and before that with Wales. I'm sure he'll be a success where ever he ends up.

Give examples of these world class managers.

The top teams don't stick with their managers so it's difficult to see who are teh real top quality managers.

Then you've got to take into consideration that any future Man Utd. manager will need to play attacking football which limits the field even more.

No there was a question mark on whether he only used that style of football at Bolton because of the limited resources. When he was after the England job he was on about "adapting" his style of play to fit the players.

Now everyone knows.. he is only a long ball specialist and nothing else.

we can only hope that allardyce gets the blackburn job and comes in with a £7m bid for Smith  :cheesy: or is that wishful thinking?

First of all Sir Alex will probably leave in about three years so it's kind of hard to say who will be hot and who won't be at the time. If he left Man U today I think the likes of Rijkaard, Scolari, Queiroz, Ancelotti etc are more suitable then Hughes, Keane, Coppell or Bruce. Especially if you take in to consideration that the manager needs to have play an attacking minded football. I also think the board at such a successful club don't want to gamble when appointing the next manager. Appointing Roy Keane as the next manager of Man U would be a big gamble. Appointing someone who has proven himself at a big club earlier on in his career wouldn't be much of gamble.

Guest optimistic nit

to be honest if we have another bad season i quite like blackburn, citeh and villa, and would be quite happy for them to hire 3 good managers and finish well above everton, spurs and west ham.

Paul Jewell and Steve Mcclaren linked with Blackburn job as well worrying times for them

I rate Jewell tbh

Championship manage who gets tired and leaves clubs when he knows they are struggling.

Didnt win one game with Derby last season.

Hasn't Ancelotti been a bit pants at Milan lately?

Very odd that they are pursuing him so much.

Just rmembered how well he has done in the champions league lately. Makes more sense now.
