Ranger is allowed his Wikipedia page now, because he's played for the first team.  :frantic:

is that the Wikipedia rule or something? Doesn`t explain how some other players have got wiki pages and not played for the 1st team(?)

diego swarfega had a page iirc.

And rightly so.

I liked diego Swarfega. Clean cut lad, shame we washed our hands of him.

Class through ball from Guthrie leading up to his goal.

He's leaving to join up with the U19s now though.

He played well against Man U reserves from what I remember too, I think he needs an open game and plenty of time to pull the trigger though - maybe just a confidence issue?

More experience I'd say. He's got the potential to be very good.. awareness in games just comes in time.

Nile Ranger hopes Toon goal will be first of many

Jul 13 2009  by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

NILE Ranger is hoping his first goal for Newcastle United will be the first of many in a black-and-white shirt at senior level.

The Londoner shone for the Magpies in the first half against Shamrock with some nice touches and exciting bursts forward.

But after being subbed at half-time, he admitted he thought his work was over for the day.

Yet with Irish ref Neale Doyle relaxing friendly regulations in Dublin, teenage ace Ranger was allowed to return to the action for a brief cameo which saw him fire home his first strike at first-team level.

He told the Chronicle: “It was strange circumstances.

“We were told we were just going to have two teams for 45 minutes each.

“Kazenga LuaLua had a stiff hamstring so I went on for the last couple of minutes.

“I just hit my shot – people said it was going wide but I was delighted to see it go in.

“Shola could have nicked it on the line, but he left it for me and gave me my first goal, so I’m delighted.”

Ranger will link up with England Under-19s for their European Championship final matches in Ukraine, and he was satisfied to head to eastern Europe with a goal under his belt.

He added: “I am pleased to get it, you always want to stay among the goals.

“I just have to keep working hard. That’s all I can do.”

The Young Lions will play Switzerland, Slovenia and Ukraine in Group A during the first stage of the competition, knowing that if they finish in the top two of that group, they will progress to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, an Irish consortium have claimed they are keen to make a bid for the Magpies.

Former Sunderland director Charlie Chawke of the now departed Drumaville group said: “We’re putting a syndicate hopefully together to bid for Newcastle.

“Newcastle is on sale for about £100m – which is about £500m less than what it was worth a year-and-a-half or two years ago.

“It’s a great club, it houses 52,000 people. It’s a great city, Newcastle. It’s a bit like Dublin – vibrant, full of fun.”
