Jak Alnwick

Alnwick has been backed by his team-mates ahead of the derby and he will also have the home crowd behind him.

His Toon colleague Massadio Haidara said: “Everybody is looking after Jak.

“He is young and has only played three games in the first team, so you cannot say something to him because he is young and he will learn from this.

“He is a good player for the future.

“The step he has made from the under-21s is big and we need to help him if he is to progress.”

Sadio sounds like a good lad. Fucking weirdo.

The tactics weren't great, but this was Tottenham away, so you expect some pressure from the stronger team than ours they had on the pitch.  We were lacking in the balance of play, but still well in the game with Sissoko looking dangerous.  It really knocks the fight out of the team when the Keeper is gifting goals and that, sadly is what happened.

I'd happily lay the blame at Pardew's door for the tactics, but the fact we lost so heavily is more down to our cheapskate recruitment policy and not building a proper squad.  We should at least have some experience, or good young potential stand in as third choice, rather than an absolute non league player, because we know he'll be cheap.

It's fine we have got a solid defence to help protect him..  :hmm: If I were a Mackem player right now, I'd be rubbing my hands together and shooting from all sorts of angles. Pretty sure their coaches will be telling all players to put him under pressure for everything and charge into the box for any rebounds.

I feel for him. I hope he plays a blinder on Sunday and goes into it with the attitude of "I can be a hero". There's going to be so much pressure on his shoulders, if he deals with it and puts in a good performance he'll deserve every bit of respect that goes his way.

From what ive seen of the mackems they seem to base 90 percent of their game on sitting back, soaking up pressure and relying on the odd break-away attack. This is why they grind out awful 0-0 and 1-1 draws all the time, win about 1 in 8 and when it goes wrong (Soton, City) they get their arses handed to them.

If the midfield do their job properly and cut this out at source then thats 10% left for speculative shots and punted crosses. Even with the wobblyness of Dummet and Alnwick, and providing colo is on his game it should be pretty straightforward to avoid our goal being peppered from every angle.

So sh*t boring draw then.

His defense & manager's tactics hung him out to dry. Sit back and try to adsorb all this pressure, puts your crap defense under pressure and they are just firing at will at our young keeper.

This, I tried to make that point in the match thread yesterday too.

They'll have looked at the club name on the emergency loan application, saw it wasn't one of the top 4, Liverpool or Tottenham and rejected it out of hand.  That's the usual method of operation isn't it?

Man City had two keepers injured and one out on loan and so would have had to play a inexperienced keeper in their place, pretty much identical to our situation.  Yet they get the blessing of the Premier League and we're told to fuck off.
