The appeal won't last 10 seconds.

Shearer admitted himself it was probably the right decision, that blows their argument out of the water already!

I thought you could get bollocked if you appeal with no grounds?

They can extend the ban if they think you're taking the piss.

Which we are.

Aren't we always?

Little interview with the Cameroon manager there saying he wants to select him in the next Cameroon squad, but isn't sure if he can with him having dual French/Cameroonian nationality.

Cameroon can f*** off, in five years time he qualifies for us!

Not sure if it's been posted anywhere else, but from .com:

Seb set for Cameroon callup

The squad for Cameroon's World Cup Qualifier against Morocco next month has now been announced and as well as the expected appearance of Geremi, Sebastien Bassong has also been included. The United defender has previously appeared twice in friendlies for France U21s, but is now pencilled in for a competitive international debut in Yaounde on Sunday June 7th.

Utterly strange this, as he's already played 2 games for the French U21's. On the face of it, this is great news as it could improve our chances of keeping him given that if he wanted ambitions of playing for France he'd almost certainly have to leave this summer whereas he'd probably walk into the Cameroon lineup even if playing in the Championship, but at the same time, if he's ambitious then this may not make a difference.

Cameroon have strengthened their squad for their upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifier against Morocco by naming French-born centre-half Sebastien Bassong and the veteran Timothee Atouba for the Group A encounter. It is a first call-up for Bassong, a former French U-21 international who was relegated from the English Premier League at the weekend with his club Newcastle United...

YAOUNDE, May 25 (Reuters) - Cameroon have named Newcastle United centre back Sebastien Bassong in their squad for the World Cup qualifier against Morocco on June 7, the national soccer federation said on Monday. Paris-born Bassong, 22, is a former French Under-21 international but because he did not play a competitive match for the French juniors he is eligible for his parents’ home country Cameroon.

Which explains it.

Really interesting.  You'd think he'd give it a few years and see if he could get called up to the big boys in France.

Have no clue about the playing standards of Morocco, Togo or Gabon, but on the face of it, Cameroon should qualify from their remaining five games. Therefore, he's clearly been sold the World Cup dream by the Cameroon coach. "Commit now and you'll be playing every game in the 2010 World Cup when we qualify, on the biggest stage any sport has to offer".

What does this mean for us though, if anything? If you assume he does play in the 2010 World Cup, which is certainly a realistic possibility at this point in time (Reading's Andre Bikey seems to be a first choice centreback), then surely the ideal time to leave us will not be now, but after the tournament in South Africa? He's guaranteed a first team place with us which he may not get elsewhere, and at the same time, he might not attract the Arsenal's or ManU's at this point in time, so would it not be more prudent to wait a season in the hopes of having a good WC and then let the big boys fight over themselves to sign him?

Too many possibilities to be worth getting excited about in all honesty, as he's still nailed on to leave, but at least there's an ever so slightly increased chance of him staying for now.

Next two Cameroon games are June 7th and June 20th.

alternatively, it could mean that he just really, really wants to play in South Africa even to the extent of switching his national side to guarantee that he do so, and will want out even more to maximize his chances.

Much less fashionable than France, meaning he may be out of the spotlight a bit more. Might make him realise he can still play in International tournaments without having to play for a bigger club. Also, the ACN issue may put other clubs off (not that it'll help us him being away mind).

Him choosing Cameroon could be good news for us.

Bassong is probably already on the radar of a few PL teams.  Better news would be his announcement that he wants to stay with Newcastle and work to bounce right back.

That's quite possibly the most staggeringly obvious statement I've ever seen you make.
