The United defender has previously appeared twice in friendlies for France U21s, but is now pencilled in for a competitive international debut in Yaounde on Sunday June 7th. Utterly strange this, as he's already played 2 games for the French U21's. On the face of it, this is great news as it could improve our chances of keeping him given that if he wanted ambitions of playing for France he'd almost certainly have to leave this summer whereas he'd probably walk into the Cameroon lineup even if playing in the Championship, but at the same time, if he's ambitious then this may not make a difference. Have no clue about the playing standards of Morocco, Togo or Gabon, but on the face of it, Cameroon should qualify from their remaining five games. Therefore, he's clearly been sold the World Cup dream by the Cameroon coach. "Commit now and you'll be playing every game in the 2010 World Cup when we qualify, on the biggest stage any sport has to offer". What does this mean for us though, if anything? If you assume he does play in the 2010 World Cup, which is certainly a realistic possibility at this point in time (Reading's Andre Bikey seems to be a first choice centreback), then surely the ideal time to leave us will not be now, but after the tournament in South Africa? He's guaranteed a first team place with us which he may not get elsewhere, and at the same time, he might not attract the Arsenal's or ManU's at this point in time, so would it not be more prudent to wait a season in the hopes of having a good WC and then let the big boys fight over themselves to sign him? Might make him realise he can still play in International tournaments without having to play for a bigger club.
