Stifler
There is an image going round showing that they had more points after the first 10 games this season, than they do at the stage we are at this season.

Current injury team would be: Vicario, Spence, VDV, Romero, Udogie, Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison, Johnson, Solanke, Odobert, with Werner on the bench and Richarlison having a late fitness test. Meanwhile players like Porro, Son and Kulu are out on their feet. I said I was checking out until Feb but honestly might have to wait until March. Want to berate Ange but the whole thing is a joke. It goes to show how well we did last year. At one point we had 11 first team players injured/unavailable. Howe managed to see us thought that period and we only missed out on Europe due to bad luck. Yeah, although I’m slightly less impressed he managed to see you through a period without Livramento and Miley as your RM and RW . Also there were three other clubs who had 11 players out at one point last season. You had terrible injury problems last season, with more minutes missed than any other club, and a key player in Pope missing for ages. The problem is that it’s just such a complex issue to compare, as the immediate context is so important. Last night we finished the game with the CM moved to LB, the LB moved to CB, a CM who’d played at CB all game and our fourth choice keeper who’s thankfully played well enough to move up to third choice. Not to mention the three teenagers in front of them and the other young player recalled from a loan who was pitched in out of desperation. The specific injuries at specific times across all positions are what is so difficult to contend with, and have resulted in players like Porro having to run themselves into the ground. I was going to say I was not looking to compare in detail as it is hard and likely turns into a pissing contest as when you go though it it always feels worse than seeing from the outside. There is no doubt Spurs are going though a really tough time right now. We went though a tough time last year. I think Howe came out of it well. edit - I was stating this more as a complement to Howe than a dig at Ange Edited January 31 by KetsbaiaIsBald

TheBrownBottle Posted Saturday at 06:37 Share Posted Saturday at 06:37 (edited) Souness and Dalglish did a LOT of damage - Souness’s wasn’t reversed until Howe. Souness is the worst for me - worse than McClaren, Bruce or Kinnear. Souness inherited a talented young side that was a couple of players and some good man management away from challenging for the title and smashed it to smithereens within a year. edit: perhaps Bruce is the biggest wanker to manage us (my dad would still claim Gordon Lee for that one). But a manager who had us in lower mid table every season having taken over a team which had finished lower mid table can’t be the worst we’ve had. TomYam Posted Saturday at 07:39 Share Posted Saturday at 07:39 37 minutes ago, GideonShandy said: And I might claim Ron McGarry Gordon Lee was the most destructive manager we ever had, but he was quite competent. He forced out many of our best players (MacDonald, Hibbitt, etc) while executing a harrying and dull long ball style, helped achieve our highest placing for 26 years, walked out on us mid season and whispered dissent into the ears of our players after he left the club. He turned things upside down and then walked out - all in 18 months. Then the pendulum swung the other way as McGarry was brought in to instil discipline. 1976 -82 was a calamitous period of mismanagement, an unambitious and stagnant boardroom, decrepit stadium, tumbling attendances and a backdrop of economic woe.
