He was immense today like and the technique for his goal, that's how you strike a ball flat on the deck from a standing position, a ball that I don't think was even moving at the time. To strike it like that is technically very difficult. I remember Rivaldo struck the ball like that all the time.

If he was a penalty-taker he'd walk Shearer's record. No reason he can't be better than Shearer at this rate of improvement, he's already better than the post-97 version.

Howay man...

That goal today will have shaken a few CH's up. Before today he was seen as a major threat in the air and at set pieces, flick-on's and finishing well in the box. To collect the ball 25 yards from goal and strike it like into the bottom corner past Reina means he's now demonstrated another string to his bow. CH's will have to worry about something extra now which should mean more time and space for others. :)

As much as I love and respect you, Shearer's where you cross that murky line into outright bias. You think he's as good as El Phenomenon, for a start.

10 league goals from open play by Decemeber in a team far worse than Shearer played in during his goal-happy years. The lad's incredible.

As an individual talent I doubt there has been anyone better than Ronaldo since maybe Maradona (although I'd vote Zidane myself) but in all my Shearer vs Ronaldo arguments I always base it on centre-forward vs centre-forward and Alan Shearer was a better all-round centre-forward than Ronaldo in my opinion. He wasn't a better footballer of course, neither was he a better footballer than Beardsley or even Teddy Sheringham but he was by far the better striker, centre-forward or goalscorer or whatever you want to call it of his generation, a generation Ronaldo belonged to.

To compare Carroll to Shearer and claim he would walk his goals tally if he were to take set pieces based on his handful of top-flight games is a remarkable statement to make.

I have perhaps been a bit too critical of Carroll's abilities I know but he will never be in Shearer's class and will never get anywhere near his tally in a Toon shirt because he's too limited as an all-rounder. He doesn't look to have a right foot for a start and his control and technique is average. So is his leading of the line.

He's bang on form and is the talisman for this side but Shearer was something else, even at Carroll's age.

Has the most points on Fantasy premier league now :)

That's awesome but I'm too scared to put him in as I might jinx the poor lad.

Remember that small patch in the season when he went a few games without scoring?, that was when I put him in my fantasy football team, needless to say he didn't score until the very game after I took him out of my team.

And to think at the start of the season, I only included Routledge and Perch as cheap but "potential point saviours in case of injuries" from Newcastle, as I didn't think any of the players would get much points

  hmmmmmmm

just the type of shit to show we're all behind him and want him to stay!
