Tin hat firmly on and I still don't forgive him for shitting on this club and others that care about it much more than he ever will, but if these bids for Carroll are genuine (and it certainly seems that they are) then Ashley deserves a lot of a credit in isolation for resisting them. Say what you like about whether it would go back into the team or not, £25m remains a huge amount of money. Especially considering the way the club is run these days.

i agree dave, i always give credit where it's due and since i've stated that i reckon pardew was brought in so ashley can have a clearer road to ,making cash i'll be impressed if we keep him. that said i still think the summer will be the real test.

Same goes for any of our top performers. We've surprised a few this season I reckon.

Newcastle have rejected a new £23million bid from Tottenham for striker Andy Carroll, Sky Sports News understands.

A high-ranking Newcastle official told Sky Sports News: "The club would like to make it clear for the very last time that Carroll is simply not for sale."

The source went on to describe the bid from Tottenham as 'paltry in the current climate'.

Realisticly how much do you think it would take for Ashley to sell?

hard to say as most of us would have said 20m plus and ashley would bite their hands off

or if you asked the sunday supplement any offer would have got him.

Still the london media pack will persist with this until whenever arrys transfer window shuts (because its never at the same time as the rest of us) so expect to see plenty of david craig and whoever they have for spurs outside the training grounds monday on ssn

Sort of sounds like they'd consider something double that.

Wonder if Spurs have had some encouragment from Carroll or his agent to make this bid, can't see them making it at this stage of the window if they hadn't had some encouragment from either the club or the player himself.

doubt it just arry being arrogant enough that he thinks he can get anyone in the world

Newcastle have rejected a new £23million bid from Tottenham for striker Andy Carroll, Sky Sports News understands.

The England international has enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League, bagging 11 Premier League goals before being sidelined by a thigh injury.

Carroll's displays in leading the line for the Magpies has attracted interest from a number of rival top-flight teams, with Harry Redknapp keen to bring the powerful forward to White Hart Lane.

The North East club are determined to retain the services of their star man and have rebuffed all offers for his services, with Spurs' latest offer drawing a terse response.

Not for sale

A high-ranking Newcastle official told Sky Sports News: "The club would like to make it clear for the very last time that Carroll is simply not for sale."

The source went on to describe the bid from Tottenham as 'paltry in the current climate'.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has always stressed his determination to keep hold of his key players during January as he looks to establish the club back in the top flight.

And with the transfer window due to close at 11pm on Monday, it remains to be seen if Spurs will return with an improved offer.

Typical media trying to drag it out. Maybe it will take Newcastle issuing the response "Fuck off" for them to get the message.

We should release a statement that two things need to happen for a bid to be accepted, first Andy Carroll handing in a transfer request, secondly a club offering £50m up front, anything less won't be considered.

If he wants to go, then we have no choice, if he does go, let it be for an astronomical fee...in the meantime clubs like Spuds get the message, they can't afford him.
