The Longstaff brothers aren’t even a product of the academy, they played for North Shields Athletic. The majority of their development was with them before Newcastle came in. They only went because obviously overall they had a higher level to play at. This is how far behind our academy is ran. There is no suggestion that they are going to invest in it to bring it up to standard, the best they have done is hire 1 coach and given Shola a fake job due to nepotism and the requirement to have a player speak the party line.

They are a bi product of grassroots football, clubs, coaching and that level of the game which they are championing or we should be. Not NUFC, the bi product of NUFC’s academy is the hundreds of kids they end up sending back to their clubs and all those kids who end up exiled from playing the game full stop every year.

A professional football club like Newcastle should, IMO anyway, be limited to running an elite academy only governed by a strict programme set to a certain criteria that is uniform across the professional game at every club with the sole purpose of training and developing players to play at the professional level of the game. A system only open to over 14 year olds who in order to join have to go through a series of trials or tests they must pass first.

Let local youth clubs and schools be in charge of kids’ football at what is a level not one person in football be it scouts, managers, players, ex managers, ex players or coaches with badges are qualified to run the rule over as to who could one day make it or not, not based on the ever so scientific rule of thumb that lists such things as physicality and scoring double figures every week starting as early as age groups from 5 and even 4 in some cases anyway. It’s absurd and it’s no coincidence why so many kids don’t make the grade at all these academies.

I’ve said with my own 5 year old, if he’s good enough at 5, he’s going to be good enough at 10 and if he’s not, as longs as he plays to the best of his ability and has fun and loves playing, that’s all that matters. If he’s being trained and paid to play for a job, that’s a different matter. Until then, let them play a game that’s theirs and no-one elses.

We should already have the best academy in the region (we don’t) also what kind of f***ing ambition is that? And what does Charnley think there is a production line of local talent waiting to get through? It doesn’t work like that, complete pathetic

Playing to his audience of support the team not the regime idiots.

Sean Longstaff has been at the Academy since he was at least 11.

Neil Redfearn has walked out on Newcastle United Under-23s amid a fallout with a member of his coaching staff, Sportsmail understands.

We have been told that Redfearn was furious when one of his coaches made a complaint to head of academy coaching Ben Dawson.

We understand Redfearn, 54, and the younger coach had not been seeing eye to eye and Dawson was forced to intervene.

There was a clear-the-air meeting at the end of last week but we are told that failed to find a resolution and tensions remain.

Redfearn was only appointed Under-23s boss in June but he now looks set to quit after not travelling with the squad for Monday night's game at Aston Villa.

Sounds like Redfearn was in the right here? Looks like Dawson’s got this one wrong.

Fuck results? Should be right up Ashley’s high street that, I expect him to be Bruce’s successor with that kind of thinking!

I'm not sure like. Dawson had them playing as a team and getting results and players looked much for ready for first team action, Redfearn's been getting them playing shit, I'm not sure how caring about the results actually harms development tbh.

Should have been Dawson's job in the first place.
