Search Sky Tyne & Wear for the goals. Just been posted by Sky on Twitter so I'm assuming it's ok to tell you where to go to see it.

Cheers for that, some lovely goals there

Some of these youngsters are really exciting. Good times ahead for the club.

How good is Maddison? He seems to make quite an impact whenever he plays.

Was a lovely finish for his goal like.

Just saw it. Brilliant goal.

Seems as if he gets on the score sheet or is involved in goals quite often.

All great goals tbf, even the Heed finish was tasty.

Jonas and Colo there  Really think that shows the togetherness of the club at the minute, two Argentine Internationals watching the second string with the coaching staff.  :snod:

Our bairns ending up in non-league/quitting altogether is extremely common.

Never understand that to be honest.  Are they just never that good to begin with?  Seems to happen to our youngsters (often highly rated ones as well) more than other clubs, but that is probably just down to us actually having an interest in their careers as opposed to youngsters from other clubs.

The vast majority of lads that go through the Academy system will not make a career out of professional football.

Yeah, I realise that the vast majority don't make it, but I suppose I still find it strange that they don't even get taken on by league 2/non league teams and at least make a go of it at that level.  You would think that they must have been pretty talented to have been picked up by a PL team at a young age and then had the benefit of years of good coaching.

Stopping full-time training makes a massive difference, players suddenly are only training once or twice a week and have to balance the demands of playing and travelling with a job outside of football. On top of this you need the mental drive to play competitively in the knowledge that you top-level dreams are virtually over. That's why you see so many players just slide off the face of the earth within a couple of seasons of their release.

Phil Airey

Monday, July 30th, 2012

Club Manager Jason Ainsley tonight has released the following statement.

‘We have decided not to follow up our interest in Phil Airey who has played in the last couple of games for us.  We have a structure at the club which we will not break and we believe the forwards we have at our disposal have shown in pre season that they want to be successful with us and believe in what we are trying to achieve’

We would like to wish Phil all the very best.

Looks like it's old news. Good work, Lee lad.

True - I suppose it must take a fair bit of drive to make yourself play at non-league level once you have been used to the facilities at a top flight club and knowing that there is very little chance of you making it big.

Trying to think now of the players who have been highly rated over the years who have disappeared.  Always remember Paul Brayson being tipped for great things.
