Young guns
go four it.....

Newcastle U18s  4   Everton U18s  2

United's youngsters made an encouraging start to their U18 Premier League campaign at Little Benton on Saturday, deservedly taking all three points.

Sean Neave turned in the box and shot home in the 13th minute to put the hosts ahead and the striker then twice came close to another - firing just wide before being denied by 'keeper George Pickford.

Neave wasn't to be denied though and latched on to Thomas Bryant's cross from the left to force the ball home at the near post within seconds of the restart.

2-0 then became 3-0 on 50 minutes; debutant Matheos Ferreira finding Byrant, whose low centre was hammered in from close range by Guy Bloomer.

The Magpies were handed the chance to further increase their lead with 11 minutes of normal time remaining after Rory Powell was felled in the box - Johnny Emerson converting the penalty kick.

An Everton side restricted to hopeful efforts from distance and frequently strayed into offside positions netted twice in added time -  Luca Davis beating Adam Harrison with a header and the back post before fellow substitute Charlie Stewart fired home.

However that failed to take the shine off a decent and committed display from the black and whites, who took five games to collect maximum points on home territory last season.

Team: Harrison, R.Powell, Bryant, Munda, Milmore (Johnson 89), Watts, Bloomer (Cogden 76), O'Donovan (Durrant 89), Neave, Emerson, Ferreira (Taylor 60).
Sub n/u: Harris.

Booked: Watts, Neave.

Player of the tournament at the Milk Cup (or whatever it’s now called). Plus he’s chosen us too. (With Man Utd).

“Every Premier League club has asked about him, but with the new rules a young player can only choose two clubs each year. So Coran has chosen Manchester United and Newcastle United.

"We also had interest from Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and other clubs like Southampton and Leicester City. He is such a gifted player.”

I must admit I’m absolutely loving the transformation of our academy and quite clear to see for the u21s and 18s it’s paying off pretty quickly with having a proper system and good people in charge of it. We seem to be operating like the other top academies (Man city, Man U and Chelsea) scooping up the best talents in the country and UK. I’m sure plenty of these lads will make an impact for us in years to come or make big profits.

Revolutionary, what's going on with our youths level. Probably the least organic part out of everything that's happened at the club over the past 18 months. It's like a spaceship's landed.

According to .com, now this lad has been linked to all the top clubs and looks some talent.

A deal is also said to be looming for Birmingham City's teenage winger Trevan Sanusi.

All these moves seem to take a while.

Sanusi was said to be signed nearly a month ago with Divine Mukasa and Leo Shahar too. Has Ollie Harrison even officially joined Chelsea yet?

Must take longer with paperwork or contracts or possible tribunal at that age? Or maybe just less priority.
