Nobody
Another thing Hulk is shite, he needs to be benched. Was Lucas in the squad or not? He needs to be starting come next year IMO. Neymar has all of the hype but right now I think Lucas is a more dangerous player to have. He came on in the second half.

ponsaelius
Neymar refined heard it all Moreso than Lucas Moura, yes. Neymar has scored 136 goals for Santos and 20 for Brazil. He was the key player in leading Santos to the Libertadores. At this stage of their respective careers he has been far more productive both in goalscoring and creatively than Lucas has. Lucas is very talented but he's even rawer and less mature as a player than Neymar is - and hasn't been consistently productive at PSG or at Sao Paulo. aussiemag
How do you see Englands best 11 looking, going into the World Cup in a years time. Id probably go: Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Cole Carrick Cleverley Walcott Wilshere Ox Rooney

I do understand where you are coming from, but Neymar hasn't had a very good game in almost 6months or more now, while Lucas has been a threat every time he's stepped onto a pitch either for PSG or Brazil. Also he's not a less mature player than Neymar, he's a far more mature and tactically aware than Neymar. Neymar has the bigger upside than both but I think at the moment Lucas is developing better than Neymar who has stagnated a lot over the last 6-12 months. I hope Neymar going to Barcelona will change that. Anyhow, both should be starting together with Oscar who for me is possibly Brazils best player the moment. ponsaelius
Have you watched much of PSG this season? Apart from the games against Barca in the CL I haven't been impressed with him really. He's clearly talented but its just fits and starts, the odd little cameo. At the Olympics I was very impressed.

He's clearly talented but its just fits and starts, the odd little cameo. At the Olympics I was very impressed. ?? He's played almost 10 games for PSG at the beginning and then had couple of niggling injuries which left him out. Been very good for them this season, watched them a lot because of swedish tv obsession with Ibra so PSG games are always on. He's been more productive than anyone in that team bar Ibra, contributing with a goal every 2 games. And also he's only made one cameo the whole season. In the Olympics he was on the bench and didn't do much whenever he came on, so I don't know how he impressed you in the Olympics except showing the obvious burst of speed he has and some technical moves. His all around game is much better, and whenever he got the ball yesterday he tried something.

Guest taps01
How do you see Englands best 11 looking, going into the World Cup in a years time. Id probably go: Hart Johnson Cahill Jagielka Cole Carrick Cleverley Walcott Wilshere Ox Rooney A lot will depend how much game time some of the youngsters get at their clubs. We could really do with the likes of Welbeck , jones, cleverly,Ox and a couple of others playing week in week out. Also Wilshire needs an injury free season. If Sturridge continues his form next season I could see him as a starter this time next year going into the World Cup.
ponsaelius
I still think Cleverley is massively average, no matter how good we made him look last season.

Tiresias
Honestly think England need to focus purely on one attribute they can get some joy out of, be it being direct and bullying teams in the box with carroll (who tbh has not had the stretch of form to justify this) or going all out counter attacking, play most solid conservative defence we can and then load up the team with all the pacey but fairly one trick wingers we seem to accumulate and hope something happens
Cronky
There was a 20 minute spell in the second half, in between the Ox coming on and Rooney scoring, when we actually looked the better side. I don't mean that we had a period of physical dominance in the way of England teams of old, I mean we were playing the better football. The lesson that I hope has been taken from that is that the manager needs to be a bit more positive in his selections, if we're to have a chance of getting anywhere. We do have some very good players in Rooney, Chamberlain, Gerrard, Hart and Wilshere. Decent ones in Welbeck, Baines and possibly Sturridge if he continues to mature. Ironically, the back four look the weakest links, even though defending is usually one of our strengths. So we actually need an attacking strategy, even though most England managers have tended to be cautious. This could be a really good England side, if Hodgson handles things right. Mr. Snrub
How can you call Ox very good yet Baines only decent? Also Sturridge is twice the player Welbeck is.

The College Dropout
Hodgson is good at creating counter-attacking teams. All that is going to result in is draws against weakish sides and draws against better sides.
Cronky
I can hear the sound of hairs being split. We don't need to argue about who's better than who, and whether a player is 'very good' or just 'decent'. My point was that we've got a much better bunch of players at the moment than is usually the case with England, and we (manager especially) ought to be more positive in our expectations. I agree with most of your original post. We played decent stuff for spells against Brazil, and to a lesser extent Ireland. With a few players to add we have a decent enough team. Strikers are a slight worry, but I'm quite a fan of Welbeck.
Cronky
I think we've got a real gem in Chamberlain. He seems to have the lot - pace, strength, skill and a good temperament. It's only a question of how far down the road of development you feel he's reached, but to me he now looks ready for regular football at the top level. To see a 19 year old pitched on to the Maracana and give such a confident, game-changing display was really heartening. It's only a matter of time before people start talking of this lad as one of the best in the world.
