Guest n4e
Despite obviously being a massive bellend I love England's Ashley Cole. Class player who puts the effort in. Amazed that people are saying Cole should never play for England again, he's just about the one player you can actually rely on to show some fight and deliver when it matters for England. Far better defensively than Baines and has all the experience you could want when it comes to playing on the biggest stages.
Disco
Worthy of a non-deprecating title change IMO. Well chuffed. These last two games have been the best consecutive performaces I can remeber from England since...

These last two games have been the best consecutive performaces I can remeber from England since... I thought England were decent in the group stage of the last Euro. Roy hasn't built much of anything new with England, imo, but he has done well to get results with what he was given and provided stability to a side that is usually in a constant state of controversy and flux. There is some good foundation for the post-2014 team when several of the bigger players will finally fade away for good.

Cronky
I think Hodgson has shown that he can hold his nerve on the big occasion, and make difficult choices. And whilst the team looked a bit nervous at times in the last two games, generally they looked as relaxed as you could expect. There's a lot of pressure on England managers, and many a big name has succumbed to it. So far, Hodgson has shown he has the mettle and fortunately, his faith in his decision-making has been vindicated.
Village Idiot
Will do you lots of good if your media don't go mental overhyping the team, for a change. Remember the first time we won anything (2008) our press wasn't giving us the time of the day before the tournament.

Ketsbaia
The media are falling over themselves to stress how low expectations are. It's like a new type of pressure, like they're expecting England to exceed them.

SEMTEX
My biggest criticism of the England team is that we struggle to put six goals past Brasil in the Maracanã.

Getting to the quarters would be success for me and then build for the future and hope to do better in 2016, 2018 and beyond.
Ste
Spain scraped a win against Belarus at the beginning of the qualification process, Italy drew with Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, all away.. what does this say about them? The two finalists of the last European tournament struggle away from home. We do okay away from home.
Pata
Hodgson always gives you a chance to win with his defensive setup. His teams are always hard to break (at least in an international stage). If your attacking players are on form and can score those crucial goals at playoffs, you have every chance to go far in Brazil.
Guest firetotheworks
Is it just me or is Gabriel Clarke starting to say 'England expects' to people as if he thinks he's saying something like 'Live long and prosper' or 'Praise Christ'?
AyeDubbleYoo
I'm looking forward to the WC regardless of what England do really. Go there, play a bit positive, get out the group. Then just enjoy it... who knows, we might beat someone decent.
Ste
We'll do pretty well in Brazil. I think failure to qualify for Euro 2008 and Capello's reign helped to lower expectations across the board. During Sven's tenure, most expected us to go far or believed we could. Under Hodgson, we recognise where we're at. Spain are unplayable at times, Brazil have the potential to beat anyone and Italy are a well drilled unit. We know our place now. We might be capable of a surprise because of this. What sticks in my mind is the headline by the Sun when the draw for the World Cup 2010 was announced. It was just daft. We are reasonably well organised now, and we carry a threat going forward. Hodgson has a bit more time on his hands now before Brazil, and the newer members to the squad will have more time to embed themselves in the set-up also. I think quarters would be an acceptable target, although this depends on the draw of course.
Yorkie
I hope we get Russia at some point. I know that many of Capello's squad won't be around, but you'd expect the players to be absolutely pumped and it would be brilliant to stick one on him. I reckon it would be a great occasion. Same really, i'm just looking forward to the festival of football that it will be and hoping we go as far as possible even though i don't expect nothing but the norm. The one thing i will say is i think going forward we are a lot more exciting to watch now, which is what its all about really for me sure i want to see my country win games but i don't want to be bored to tears either..... Watching Townsend, Rooney and Sturridge last night when they went forward really excited me and hopefully its a sign of things to come.
