The England Thread

RH as England manager is almost as bad as pardew as Nufc manager!

If FA appoints pardew it would be the biggest joke ever. (won't happen...unfortuneately)

Henderson and welbeck in the starting line up disappointed me.

Here's one to ponder: if your players were born Germans and vice versa, would Germany be as good as a major tournament competitor, and England be as s***? I'm afraid so personally.

There's nothing inherently "wrong" with the English players on a phyiscal/technical level. The main issues preventing England from doing well are all mental, strategic and tactical. The role that the media plays is also unjustifiably huge. Team England should take a leaf out of MA and ban most if not all English media from the squad starting from 2 months before a major tournament.

Agree with that. All this pressure & performance isolation of Rooney, Sterling was far better in that role & we suffered as a side due to the focus of changing it for Rooney. Add on top some " So you realise x is a Top Top player how will you ever cope with him" asked 20 times.

The players can talk the talk about oh we're focusing on ourselves blah, but realistically they s*** the bed. Our media creates narratives about what we fail at & we all buy into it. No one expects to win penalties ever again man. The pressure created to break that narrative does us in. We'd be in shock if we even made a semi final. We bill ourselves as failures & you get what you expect in life.

Germany expect to succeed.

Need to be more of a unit, closing down, attacking with intensity and movement and tactically aware. We take our eye off the ball so much and seem slow to get at teams when they have the ball. When we have the ball the play is so slow and predictable. We need to replicate the Germans and be efficient and a unit with no 1 stand out star

Blaming the media is the easy way out, we just don't have good enough players for the big stage.

Hodgson has pensioned off one prematurely and not tried hard enough for another. Cole and Terry. And while they would've papered over the cracks, the likes of Shaw could've learned from them. Hope Hodgson does the decent thing and falls on his sword and the FA go back for Hoddle who clearly is cut out for International management more than the day to day style of club management.

What do you put our failure at penalties down to? Our players are awful under pressure.  We were flapping at clearances, its basic stuff. We scored, got very confident suddenly. They win a corner & we spent the next 5 minutes flapping again before the goal. They s*** the bed. Its like Newcastle after we go behind.

Didn't think England played that badly, though playing Welbeck on the wing is just an awful idea. Didnt work in the premier league and was never going to work to work at international level.

Think Woy got caught picking players instead of a system. I would have just lined up like Liverpool. (Rooney for Suarez, Wilshere for Allen etc)

Everyone has been banging on about how expectations were realistic this time, so the pressure thing on the players is crap on this tournament.  Our defence has looked rubbish for months, but people were blinded by our decent attacking play we did at times.

England need to build a system that works and stick to it and build a TEAM from it and not just pick the best 11.

It's a sign of the manager's intention when he selects him because he is the best defensive forward we have.  Ferguson used to select him in all of the games when he knew his side weren't as good as the opponents.

People can bang on about whatever they like, it means nowt. Cahill & Jagielka do not play like that for their clubs. Jagielka flapped the ball across goal in the first 5 mins while Cahill tried to boot it forwards at one point and kneed it into touch.

We played half a side that just finished 2nd in our league together on the basis of it enabling a better "Team". There's clearly more to it if you're not being simple.

Being Simple, what is that supposed to mean?

Nowt, being a dick. I'm not sure who these better team players are that everyone keeps referring to though. Welbeck isnt getting in because he's mr individual flair, nor Henderson. That was us compromising.

The whole reason France dropped Nasri from tournament was to focus on being a team rather than just individuals and we need to do the same. If there is someone ploughing there trade at clubs not just in top 4 or 5 that would help from a team perspective then they should be given a chance. The FA and premier League also have to try and do something about the amount of foreign players in our league and also teams like Chelsea and Man City ruining english talent when they buy for big money and leave to rot in reserves. I hope to fuck that Barkley stays where he is rather than chasing the money of those 2 clubs.

He shouldnt tbh.

He should, as I said this world cup has been a dismal failure and as the manager he has to take responsibility for it.

we're not good enough, simple as.  hodgson does have to take some blame but most of it isnt his fault.

We should be good enough to get out of the group stages to be honest.

It was a hard group, yes uruguay are not the same team as 4 years ago but they are still a difficult proposition when you play against them.
