LRD
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2500411/Newcastle-United-goalkeeper-Tim-Krul-performed-heroics-Tottenham-Hotspur-story-record-breaking-Dutchman.html Six years on and that same gangly goalie has just set a new Premier League record for saves – 14 – in one match. Didn't know it was a PL record. In November, 2006 Newcastle journeyed to Sicily for a UEFA Cup match against Palermo. And, in the heart of mafia country, it was Krul who was boss. Then just 18, his heroics helped the Magpies to a 1-0 victory. It was a dream debut and, given its exotic location, one which entered black-and-white legend. His post-match interview proved just as popular, the startled starlet simply repeating the word ‘unbelievable’. It was hard to disagree. Unbelievable. It won’t come as a shock to learn that he models himself on Edwin van der Sar. The former Manchester United custodian once made a point of seeking out Krul following a match at St James’ Park and the pair spent a good quarter of an hour deep in conversation. Krul spoke to the press not long after and was asked how the conversation with van der Sar had been, ‘Ah, unbelievable’, he came back. Was Unbelievable!'s user name inspired by Krul? Unbelievable
Indeed it is, the Palermo interview specifically. What a way to break onto the scene it was..

Hanshithispantz
It's the most saves in the league since when OPTA started recording it I think. 2002 or something.
mrmojorisin75
heard a few versions, most that made sense was the most saves without conceding since XXXX

Guest DebuchyAndTheBeast
over £10 M for a keeper is always a good price and we may even get a good replacement for half or a quarter of that value. However the Spurs match showed us the difference in having a good keeper (e.g Friedel) and great keepers (Lloris, Krul). It's these small details that add up at the end of the season and determine whether a team makes it to the Cl or not and is relegated or stays up. They were interviewing an ex Pro the other week (can't for the life of me remember his name) and he was saying having a top class Keeper can be worth an extra 12-15 points over the course of a season. Personally I think goalkeepers are undervalued in the transfer market. If the Mackems had westwood in goal last season instead of Mignolet they would be playing in the Championship now.
