Anybody read Bellamy's autobiography? Regardless the way he talks about Bobby and the utmost respect he has for him is nothing short of charming. Maybe in life you get what you deserve and a bunch of fans turning on Bobby and him being forced out.... Well maybe Pardew is our comeuppance.

Unfortunately Bobby's time was up in football and he should have been moved aside the summer before he was peddled, and been part of his replacement's hiring process.  Like every replacement of the biggest role in the club Shepherd was reactive to what the media told him was the best move.

If only Bobby replaced Keegan as he was supposed to.

I have not and will never get that claim. I'm genuinely curious as to how people come to that conclusion? The season before he'd finished fifth and the semis of the UEFA Cup. Two points from four games wasn't great but I don't see how that was unworkable especially considering his record. A manager finishing in the top five every season past his first with a club stuck outside the top ten when he arrived doesn't sound like a dinosaur to me. He should have had his last season IMO.  This is not confrontational to you BTW, just interested in the reasons why people say his time was up.

We reap what we sow at this club. Managers like Hughton, Keegan and Bobby get treated like crap whilst the likes of Pardew get applauded. Mental.

That would be seen as great by Pardew standards. Us pesky fans demanding too much.

Even with the rosest tinted specs he was on the wane and a fair few wanted him replaced, in a dignified manner may I add - DoF role or suchlike, but as always with FFS it went down in the most atrocious way possible and the club never recovered. Ace.

How far we've fallen man, utterly rank.

Was due to the attitude of the so called professional footballer - more interested in their personal media profile and fame than actually being capable as a footballer and actually do what they were paid to do.

Bobby was from a different time when most players at least had a modicum of professional pride that he could work with.

I seem to say this every 5 minutes but Shepherd telling the world it was SBR's last season was the worst thing he ever did.  Was trying to strike a happy medium between sacking him and keeping him on but totally fucked it and led to a situation where our next 3 managers were Souness, Roeder and Allardyce.

Even Alex Ferguson struggled with that. He said he'd be retiring at the end of the next season in the summer of 2001 and it almost crippled them. They were 9th by December after winning the league the season before. He announced he'd be staying soon after and they won 13 from 15.

Bobby should have been given the rest of his final season and Shepherd should never have announced it was his last year. Bobby offered to find his replacement and that should have happened.  The poor start to his last season (or last few games anyway) was no different to the previous starts to the seasons when we ended up qualifying for Europe.

Ferguson managed to keep it going through a reign of terror though, which is the reason why they're having such a reaction now that he's gone.  He was the football Dread Pirate Roberts.

Bobby was more of a gentleman, arm around the shoulder, tell you you're the key player in his team manager to bolster confidence.

Excellent point and it was still quite fresh in the mind at times, hence the reason why anyone with any sense knew Shepherd doing that was stupid.

We were in an excellent position to get a top manager in if he hadn't done that, whether it was that summer or the next.  Obviously ended up with Souness.

Theoretically if he had stayed who would you have liked to have come in?

Difficult to say without casting my mind back to who would have been possible in the summer of 2005 but the summer of 2004 saw Mourinho/Benitez come to England of course.  We could have done far, far better than Souness obviously.

Impossible to say but I think we could have got a real top up and coming European coach with Bobby overseeing from upstairs. We had a lot going for us back even without the traditional unfilled potential then.

Liverpool sacked off  Houllier for Benitez despite finishing 4th to our 3rd.  We sacked Robson 4 games into the season and appointed Souness.

At least he wasn't bottom of the league and we hadn't just beaten his team 3-0...

 It was funny like, can remember Blackburn fans being delighted to see the back of him and perplexed they were even getting compensation for it.

Typical reactionary Shepherd appointment.  Get a hard nut in since Bobby was too soft.  Best players fall out with him and never play.
