LFEE
Hm, after seeing the press conference I don't think Joey will play and I think he's on his way. We've already signed his replacement, so no worries. Not according to today's press conference... For what it's worth AP did say today that if Barton does decide he wants to leave they will have to bring in a replacement as good as if not better... Wallace
If Barton goes to Stoke, I would say it is more about how desperate he is to leave us because of his issues with the board rather than any enthusiasm for Stoke. However they are a club that are showing a lot more ambition than we seem to plan on doing for several years. His agent did say they would speak to every interested club and listen to what they had to say so that might be all they are doing. And whatever offer Stoke come up with, they could use it as a bargaining tool should other clubs show interest.

Wil
Think there will be something about Barton feeling wanted also. Can see that Pulis would absolutely love to have him at the centre of his plans, and could be persuasive. Also he could become the main man again. Whereas the dynamic on that score at our club has changed completely. Though personally would love to see him get his head down and stay another year. Why would he got Stoke when he himself has said he will only leave for a top 4 club and his agent has been broadcasting to the world that he won't have any problem getting a deal with a top club? Do they think Stoke will be playing CL football next year?
Ryan_Taylor
Aye, Pardew says that if Barton does leave we'll have to replace him with someone as good if not better. I know it's not really news as such but it's good to know that Obertan isn't the replacement. Think we need to start ignoring things that appear after the part in bold tbh

Think we need to start ignoring things that appear after the part in bold tbh Think people need to stop giving the guy such a hard time to be honest. Some people (not necessarily on here, on Twitter in particular) are finding ways to pick fault (completely unjustified) in everything he says. Probably because just about everything he says is bullshit from upstairs.

colinmk
Barton would be a great signing for stoke, someone to cross it for 9 7ft players.

toon25
Irrespective of what's gone on over the past few weeks, I hope gets loads of support tomorrow. I think we'll really need his tenacity and ability this year. For me, him staying is also the difference between a poor and decent summer.
biggs
From The Journal They will have even less knowhow if Pardew decides against including Barton – something the United boss admits is near the forefront of his thoughts at the moment. The pair will meet before training today, with the Newcastle manager seeking reassurances Barton is committed. He wants to know whether he is considering a move away – Zenit St Petersburg and Stoke were linked with him yesterday – and will not select the midfielder unless he receives reassurances. “I am not sure he will start on Saturday in my mind, whatever answer he gives me (in the meeting),” Pardew said. “I want to be fair to the fans and I want to be fair to him and it is not like our relationship has broken down – our relations are pretty strong. “I think he is in a better frame of mind. I think he is beginning to get his head around everything, but it is a difficult decision for him. “The decision in front of Joey (pictured) is at the moment there is no contract on offer for him here – so does he take a longer contract elsewhere or does he stay and play for Newcastle and take that option later on in the season? “I have offered Joey an olive branch to say ‘look Joey, I am not going to put you to one side and say I am not going to involve you in the club’ Read More http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2011/08/12/alan-pardew-nufc-will-survive-without-jose-enrique-61634-29222232/#ixzz1UoFNQn4t IMHO that is cutting your nose off to spite your face ,ffs going into the first game of the season against a team who will probably be top 4 again at home with a chance to get off to a flyer and the confidence that will breed ,its a no brainer for me unless Barton says im off . Stottie
Pulis looks pretty handy so I can imagine him chinning Barton if he gets any backchat about who takes the freekicks or whether he's supposed to play for throw-ins.
