Dave
I do agree btw, it would be interesting to see that switch made. Doesn't seem to be on the agenda though, has Ben Arfa ever played wide left under Pardew?
Shak
Don't think so Dave, always just been off the striker or else out right as far as i recall. He played LW in that game against Everton under Hughton I think, obviously he was shite so no sense trying that nonsense again.
Guest BlacknWhiteArmy
If we're going to insist on having Ben Arfa so deep when playing out wide then the left is the best place for him imo.
Lotus
Would be tempted to play Guthrie and Cabaye in the middle for this one. That average postion bollox thing could end up looking like this! ..........................Krul....................... Simpson......Will..........Colo................ ...............................................Santon ...............................Guthrie.............. Jonas.......Cabaye............................. ...................................................HBA .................................Ba..................... ............Cisse...................................... Shak
If the last month has shown us anything it's that Tiote must always play. Always.

Lotus
If the last month has shown us anything it's that Tiote must always play. Always. I'm not sure we'll be overun in midfield by Wolves tbh. Guthrie is a better user of the ball than Tiote. But hey, i'm pinning my colours to the mast here, just making a suggestion!
Guest reefatoon
I agree with Shak, we neet Tiote back no matter what.
madras
It's not just a question of giving him enough cash to sign as he'll probably look till the end of the season to see where pardew rates him. He'll reckon he's proved himself in the prem and could well have his choice of clubs where he'd be first choice.
Smal
Think he should play right side of midfield against Wolves if Pardew isn't going to play HBA. He has all the attributes of a wide midfielder and he's improved since he was last tried there. Better than Obertan, anyway
JH
I've got a better idea. Why doesn't he not play Guthrie on the right?
Hughesy
I don't think it's a coincidence that the only times we have conceded 3 goals or more this season, Tiote has not been playing. He is so important to us. Apart from West Brom and Liverpool.. but you get the point.
Guest michaelfoster
Guthrie is not diciplined enough to play RM as he ends up cutting inside and playing almost as a CM leaving us lop sided and Simpson exposed at RB.
Guest Spark
If the last month has shown us anything it's that Tiote must always play. Always. Cabaye, too. His closing down and tackling is something we've lacked in recent games.
Smal
Guthrie is not diciplined enough to play RM as he ends up cutting inside and playing almost as a CM leaving us lop sided and Simpson exposed at RB. instead of Obertan, who just stands still and leaves Simpson exposed
JH
On that logic, why don't we play Krul there?
ponsaelius
Guthrie is crap on the right.
Guest michaelfoster
He Guthrie is not diciplined enough to play RM as he ends up cutting inside and playing almost as a CM leaving us lop sided and Simpson exposed at RB. instead of Obertan, who just stands still and leaves Simpson exposed Obertan made a cracking tackle against Villa tbf, Guthrie is too busy wandering round like a lost sheep when he plays RM so its either CM or the bench for Guthrie unfortunatly. Smal
Oh yeah, I forget that Obertan made one tackle two games ago. He's perfectly fine then. Seriously though, I don't see how Guthrie could be worse than Obertan on the right. He deserves to be playing a lot more than Gabby does

He deserves to be playing a lot more than Gabby does You are right, he might deserve to play more than Obertan, but it is the same with the Ben Arfa situation. square pegs in round holes is not the way to do it. We need to play players in their best position, not shoe horn them in somewhere else. Playing guthrie on the right is not the way to do it.
madras
Well what is githries best position ? Not good enough defensivly to play centre in a 442, not creative enough to carry.

Dr Venkman
Well what is githries best position ? Not good enough defensivly to play centre in a 442, not creative enough to carry. His best position is CM, he's just not great at harrying people or tracking runners, doesn't mean he's better somewhere else.
AyeDubbleYoo
Guthrie's worst spell for us was on the right. He's slightly fitter now, but I still don't want to see it.
Sifu
As harsh as it would be to do it, Guthrie must make way for Cabaye and Tiote. Like Dave has said, they are simply a class above him. Cabaye gives us more of a motor in CM and Tiote gives us reinforced solidity in midfield too. I've said this before, Guthrie has proved to be a more than capable backup to both Yohan and Cheik so by that reckoning, I would very much like him to stay. I'm hopeful that he'll sign a new contract and I think he will. He will get his opportunities next year with us - Tiote will presumably be off to the ACoN again so there's always a chance for Guthrie to play. Having said all that, if he feels he needs to move, then it would be understandable.
