Hope to god Krul doesn't pick up an injury this year as we could really do without starting a PL game with Harper in the sticks.

The goal tonight brought back painful memories of his latter days as our number 1.

He did nothing wrong for the goal tonight.

Two mistakes. Had absolutely no reason to come off his line and secondly his attempt at a save was half arsed at best. Made it so easy for the lad to score when in reality should have been a difficult chance.

He did make the goal difficuilt, he stayed on his feet and made the goal as small as possible by spreading his arms.  He was beaten by a very well placed shot.

Well placed shot. If he stays on his line he saves it and if he bothers even attempting to save it once he does come out he has a miles better chance of saving it than just watching it go in, as he effectively did.

He had to come out, that is what 'keepers do, come out and close the angle down.  It was a very good finish. If he stays on his line the guy takes a touch and then can score anywhere in the goal, he was unlucky as it was a superb finish.

If he stays on his line then the winger has an easier target as he has more to aim at, he came out and narrowed the angle and in so doing gave the winger less to aim at, he hit his shot well.  How would staying on his line give him a much better chance of saving it?

He had to come, the ball had beaten Tavernier, he had to try and narrow the angle down best he could. Cant blame him for the goal.

The difference between Krul and Harper all season long is challenging for 7th and a good cup run to bottom half and out of every competition 2 or 3 rounds in.

Can't remember Krul getting a massive slagging off when Gerrard scored for Liverpool last year when he charged at him and he slotted it in, when in that case due to the angle he actually should have stayed on his line.

In certain situations they should come out obviously. Not in this instance though, it was a poor decision. I certainly would have been more confident in a shot being saved from that angle than Harper coming off his line, he made it easier for him.

The player was going away from goal with a defender closing in. He'd have had time for one touch and a shot at a narrowed angle. If he sticks it in fair play he'll have finished very well.  If Harper has made the decision to come, he at the very least needs to spread himself not "stay on his feet and stick his arms out". See Wojciech Szczesny for one of the best technicians.

Try and watch the goal again, he had no choice but to come off his line.

Seen it several times; yes he did. He also could have done a lot more when he did make the decision to come out too.

Not favourable to start Krul bashing though.

How does he spread himself without sticking his arms out?  Also when you come out you have less time to react and that's why you can only give the attacker less to aim at and it will work more often than not.

I'm not looking forward to seeing Harper get much game time because he's past it and too slow, that doesn't mean he'll always be to blame if we let a goal in and tonight he wasn't.

Spot on.

Having seen it again, if he had stayed on his line it would have gone in, excellent finish.

Come to think of it, you're probably right. Harper's deteriorated that much it would have still probably gone in no matter what he did.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have used his arms. To stay stood up that distance away from the attacker meant his arms were completely useless. It was horrible technique.

Harper did nowt wrong whatsoever. Unfortunately it's preferable to criticise a 37-year-old who's been loyal and dependable to the core than a young prospect who'll probably end up at Swindon after being bigged up beyond belief everytime he puts his boots on the right feet.

There'll be worse places to end up if they carry on the way they're going.
