Was listening to Guardian Football Weekly podcast earlier and they said that the first leg of NZ-Bahrain was the dullest game played by anyone ever, and that the game in NZ would be a sellout at 35500, something that never happened earlier and 18000 of those tickets were gone within five days....

What business do they really have in the World Cup though? 32 countries participate in the WC, is that too many anyone think?

Still think it's a bit unfair. New Zealand play one group of games against a load of islands, while Bahrain had to come through a qualifying round, a first group stage, a second group stage and then a play-off, all against harder opposition, ammasing to a total of 18 games.

More than likely if New Zealand had been in Asian qualifying they wouldn't have even got this far.

Newcastle Fan hasn't been seen since.

Unbelievble..they were awfull throughout the two legs, we absloutly batterd them but the fucking ball just wouldn't go in, missed a penalty too and a number of sitters and somehow they managed to go to the world cup..

Congrats for them i guess, really gutted with the result, 2nd time in 4 years :(

Honduras and North Korea have both qualified deservingly through difficult campaigns though, it's the way New Zealand only had to play 2 competitive matches to get there which is silly.

Agreed Oceania needs to merge with Asia. The region is ridculously small minus Australia. Insanity that one of those rubbish teams gets a one off to the World Cup.

A World Cup with New Zealand, Honduras and North Korea  (Honduras are ok actually). possibly Algeria too depending on today.

Honduras and Korea earned it definitely. Algeria are going through hell at this moment and if they make it, they'll definitely deserve it. Algeria play good football, btw. They'd be a good watch.

edit:  at a basketball team called the "Tall Blacks"

I saw the game with Egypt yesterday and it was very good. I was watching it Egyptians so I was rooting for the. It was heart in your mouth stuff till the last minute.

Though Belhadj of Portsmouth was excellent in the game. Drove up and down the wings with pace, he was very unlucky to be on the loosing team.

They have a player that played in the norwegian second division last year in their squad.

Was it 2002 or 2006 where Nigeria had Efe Sodje who's spent most of his career floating around the bottom two leagues over here in the side? Means nowt.

I think it means something. If you're a legitimate nation than players like this should not be featuring for your country. Imo, it's one of the reasons for the falter in 2002. Nigerian officials are stupid. They called up Kayode f***** Odejayi after Barnsley's FA Cup run.

I hope Algeria knock out Egypt tbh. They play the better football and players like Meghni, Belhadj, and Ziani are very good to watch. People forget the likes of Zidane and Nasri have Algerian roots as well. Only problem I had with them on Saturday was that they employed the typical North African tactics. They were time-wasting and diving from the first minute on.

Laughing Tall Blacks. Shouldn't that be our name?

It was, but we took it in 2002 when we finished ahead of you at Indy in the 2002 World Basketball Champs.

The only downside to us qualifying is the ZOMG! RUGBY IS DEAD IN NZ! SOCCER IZ KING!!! crowd are coming out in bunches again.  We've seen it happen over and over, some other national team hits a purple patch while the All Blacks have a down season (We only won 80% of our games this year you see - time to guillotine the coach and start again) and suddenly Rugby Union is dead and League/Soccer/Basketball/Cricket/*insert latest flavor of the month here* is the new national pastime.
