They would've also dumped him a good few years earlier than we did.

Do you have hypothetical hindsight ? What a gift.

Wait. You're having a go at me for giving a hypothetical response to a hypothetical statement? Piss off.

The book's an absolute cracking read, like. He goes into more detail about his time with us than his other clubs. Fantastic anecdotes about Shepherd, Bobby and Souness. Shepherd comes across like a brilliant nutter. Bellamy didn't like him.

The important bits:

Shearer told the players personally than Bobby tried to sell him to Liverpool in 2003. Shepherd put the brakes on it. Bobby didn't know that Shearer knew so Shepherd apparently went to him first. Bellamy felt bitter about Shearer's role in Bobby's dismissal which led to tention and also said Dyer and Bobby were 'too close'.

Allardyce tried to swap Owen for Bellamy in 2007. Liverpool didn't want Owen back.

Anything about Robert?

Nothing actually. Robert was Shearer's mate.

Waxed lyrical about Solano, Dyer and Kluivert. Said Bobby was effectively gone the day Speed was sold. Speed was Bobby's voice on the field and often the dressing room.

Have you finished it already? Christ, that was quick!

Thought there would have been more about Robert just because of the sheer impact the 2 of them made to our team.

2003?! Shearer was still banging them in then. It was only after the following summer it slowed.

Bought my dad it for father's day so will reclaim it from him when he's finished with it.

I know a lad that plays for Cardiff too so going to get him to get it signed for me.

Sir Bobby was livid about Speed's sale, which was done totally behind his back.

Also didn't feign injury before going to Celtic. He did admit to walking off the training field, though.

Souness sat him down in front of the whole squad a few days after the Charlton incident and said he was going to 'fucking knock (him) out' and went to grab him by the throat but stumbled which made a few of the players laugh. Embarrassed, Souness then challenged him to a fight in the gym, which Bellamy declined.

Good management is spotting the early warning signs and acting before it becomes a problem. That was the secret of Fergie's success.

Bob Paisley once said that if a player's legs are going to give out, make sure it's with another club and not yours.

The day Shepherd failed to back Sir Bob in moving Shearer on was the turning point. The club, and most of the supporters in the end, backed the wrong man.

That whole summer was fucking daft, Shepherd saying it was Robson's last season and it did seem like Shepherd had taken over the transfers by that point.

Think the story was that we could have had Carrick from West Ham for less than we bought Nicky Butt for, the manager was keen as was the player but Shepherd wasn't.
