NEEJ
Those moaning about how 'negative' we're going to be this season and how theyd rather we went out and played free-flowing, attacking football are fucking morons. Number 1, the season hasnt started yet, therefore we've no idea how we'll actually play. 2, we played some decent stuff at home last year, so hopefully that will continue. And thirdly, a 1-0 win feels so much better than a loss, no matter how entertaining the game was.
Guest Antigalican
Agree with the footballing points (not necessarily the "morons" comment!!) I will add, as I was alluding to on the other thread, its often from grinding out results that players gain valuable experience and confidence, that then enables them (hopefully) to become better footballers who can play a more expansive game. If we go out and get dicked 6-0 at Old Trafford trying to play gung-ho football that could have a catastophic effect on the team's confidence. Greg
GL 'Have you got any money to spend, Chris?' CH 'Yes but you have to realise this club is in a very different place to where it was only a few years ago in terms of what we can spend on players but I do expect to sign new players before the start of the season' Said Ranger, Donaldson, Vuckic, Ferguson should feature at some point this season. Krul and Forster both pushing Harper very hard for no.1. Experience of being caretaker at Spurs and here helpful in his own development among other things. Understands some calls for a more experienced manager to come in but feels he has earned the right to manage Newcastle United in the Premier League. Hughton is shit at golf but should be good given how many people have tried to make him play and how good some of the lads are. Job takes over his life, has no time for hobbies, very difficult to switch off 'I'm pretty boring really'. Asked if the club would be better off with new owners - No, we needed stability and support, we got it and were able to strengthen in January, stability is the key and we have it. Next stage is to become an established side in the PL. No idea how long to establish back in Europe, said he would be an idiot to speculate. Has to be realistic. Aim to become steady PL side, once achieved then push on get club back to where it should be challenging for Europe etc. England were shit at the World Cup. Nowt new really but there you go. David28
Not too happy with those comments tbh. Hope that doesn't mean we will see a Carling Cup team everytime we play Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and so on... Chris Hughton to focus on winnable games CHRIS Hughton has revealed Newcastle United will target specific matches to glean the points needed to still be in the Premier League 12 months from now. The Magpies manager has studied the success of both Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, two sides who consolidated top-flight status after promotion from the Championship in 2009. Hughton views that as the first step towards his long-term goal of re-establishing United as European competitors. “At Birmingham and Wolves there were additions last season, but not dramatic,” he reasoned. “They weren’t so different to the squads the season before. Both attacked it differently, Birmingham got off to the better start and Wolves finished very, very strong. “The way to approach it is knowing where the games are where you’re more hopeful of getting results. “We are in a division where the top eight teams are very strong and very competitive. We’re realistic enough to know the games against the top teams will be very difficult home and away. “But we also know there’s a group of teams we’re far more hopeful of getting results from home or away.” Wolves boss Mick McCarthy got in trouble for employing that tactic, but no one at Molineux was complaining at the end of last season. Wolves were handed a suspended £25,000 fine for fielding a weakened team at Manchester United in December, a game they lost 3-0. Even had they been forced to pay the amount, it paled into insignificance alongside the money earned through another Premier League campaign. The midweek trip to Manchester was sandwiched between games at Tottenham and at home to Burnley, both of them won. The 2-0 win over relegation rivals Burnley featured nine players who faced Spurs but were rested against the Red Devils. Although Wolves comfortably escaped relegation, finishing eight points clear of the Clarets, the home win undoubtedly gave them much-needed mid-season momentum. http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2010/07/21/chris-hughton-to-focus-on-winnable-games-61634-26895857/

AyeDubbleYoo
If a players in the first team squad it should be up to the club if they choose to play em. Bleedin stupid rule. Doubly stupid as it only applies to the smaller clubs - Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea rest players all the time if they believe they can win a game easily. The decision to fine Wolves was ridiculous.
