thenige
The fact he kept them behind afterwards in the dressing room for at least an hour speaks volumes. He knows today wasn't good enough and I'm certain he let them know. Fair play. Now to rectify the fact...

Mick
Sorry you're right, you would have played the injured Vuckic instead of Guthrie. Vuckic would have played better.

If so it's because Hughton didn't come out for his post match interview until about an hour and 20 minutes after the game and the interviewer questioned him on it. JH
Surely team selection aside, the tactics were just as horrid?

Guest BooBoo
Always difficult to decide when it goes against us whether the players are just underperforming in general or it's because of tactics/ instruction. The way we played today especially in the first half suggested the gameplan was "stand off, let them come at us and let's hope they run out of ideas." Ronaldo
Same goes for Bolton, Wolves, and incredibly, Stoke at home.

midds
Can't be blamed for the injuries or suspensions and we're dipping into the squad more and more to cover the better players we have out. I accept that and our better players are not available for one reason or another. But...... picking a clearly unfit/uninterested (delete as appropriate) Ameobi was a mistake. He's seen him in training and decided to pick him. Sending is team out to absorb pressure is insane. We're not good enough defensively to soak it up for long periods. No spark, no enthusiasm and a distinct lack of effort/bollocks. Why weren't we wound up for this? Why are we handing the initiative to WBA from the first whistle. We let them settle and they knocked it about and could have scored way before they actually did. No plan B. Yet again, when knocking it forward to Carroll doesn't work we've got nothing else. Change of formation? Push the full-backs on? Play through midfield? I know his hands are tied in some respects but by Christ he's not making things easy is he? At the end of the day he carries the can for results and performances (as does any manager). Today we were shit again. That's 2 points from 15 with a few tough games to come. We could well be in the bottom 4 or 5 by Xmas/New Year and he'll be under real pressure to keep his job.
Guest BooBoo
On the other hand look at the Arsenal and Everton games when we've took the initiative from the start and played very well as a result. Cowering in the face of Bolton and WBA has really cost us two heavy defeats. Fair enough, personnel were missing but the change in attitude and adventure was startling. Ronaldo
Best. Yeah, like he wouldn't have done a better job than Shola in the last 5 games.
Wullie
Best. Yeah, like he wouldn't have done a better job than Shola in the last 5 games. He'd have made more of an impact than Shola did against Fulham, that's for sure. Howay man, you're not stupid enough to think that Best would have made any difference whatsoever. Ronaldo
He can run and assert himself a bit. That, in my book, makes him more useful than Shola has been in that space of time. Especially in the last 2 games, as we've basically been down to 10 men because of his inclusion.

Mistle17
Best was absolutely abysmal for us in the Championship. Correct me if I'm wrong but he didn't even score for us in a competitive game. I don't know where people get the opinion that he would be any better than Ameobi. We're better off giving Ranger a go or playing Nolan off Carroll.
