I think he's already proven he's a good manager.  We're obviously going to lose games and have bad runs, you can't always say that means the manager is crap, take Ancelotti as an example at the moment.  On the other hand you could argue the opposite with the good runs but I think Hughton has shown enough in the last year and a half, with our rapid rise, to show he's a good manager.

Mick, you seem to be basing your opinion on Hughton's ability entirely down to our results (thinking he's good after and few wins and bad after a few defeats), surely there comes a point where you have to accept that a manager is doing the best with the players he has got.   You could argue Hughton isn't doing this it but that would be difficult IMO.

I get the feeling that we'll turn up for almost every game with Hughton. In recent years, with Roeder, Souness, Kinnear, Fat Sam etc. there were games where you could see from the first minute that we were going to get battered, but this side is different, much down to the work of CH. I don't know what he is doing but this team has so much more fight in it than many of the other Newcastle sides that I've seen. It is going to become incredibly important come the end of the season.

He's consistently awful with mid game tactical changes and substitutions. Fair enough he recognised Shola was dreadful today and subbed him at half time, but to bring on the flimsy Lovenkrnads with two more fitting replacements sitting on the bench is just crazy.

I like Hughton but for every one thing he's done well this year, there's another where he's made a glaring error.

You have to look at the players as well. At the end of the day there was a decent side out there today and they just didnt turn up. They were gutless and pathetic, smacks of the relegation season and its no surprised most of this lot played for us that year too. Hughton has his share of the blame for not getting the players going of course, but at the end of the day they are 11 grown men and professional footballers, to walk out there and not even bother is ridiculous.

When you're a relegation struggler you're going to have some terrible losses. At the beginning of the season, Hughton himself mentioned the need to stay strong through these inevitable poor patches. We just have to accept that some degree of fluctuation is natural.

There's still a lot of football to be played and there's no point in labeling him yet. Just in general principle, you shouldn't even consider sacking your manager unless he's a. lost the dressing room, or b. persists on making the same mistakes. We've seen none of that from Hughton.

The balance today was nowhere to be seen, they played the same throughball in the middle all the time. We need Barton and Nolan back asap. Due an upturn in form now to avoid the drop zone before Christmas. Very important to get something from Liverpool and Birmingham.

It should also be obvious to him that Shola offers far less than Ranger.

  The attitude of some the players walking about the pitch today was sickening - Hughton isn't exempt from criticism on that point, but the difference in attitude was a major factor today. Four big players out today (five if you include old Benny) and man did it ever show.
