I've yet to read any of the reaction yet, but i daresay the forum floorboards are leaking with the blood from gaping slit wrists?

In the grand scheme of things, it's a decent point. We're still unbeaten at home, still on a lossless streak, and still three points clear with a game in hand. We've also proven that we can hold off the side who are arguably the best footballing team in the division, without playing particularly well. We're at 1 win in 5 at the moment which isn't what you'd call Championship form, but we're unbeaten in a hell of a lot - without playing great football - and that is a sign of Champions.

Last night was frustrating cos most of our best players went from the sublime to the ridiculous at the drop of the hat. One moment Jonas would nick the ball past three players, then a couple minutes later he'd tumble to the ground in an instant. Same with Jose and Guthrie - one decent run and a good pass, then a shambolic one. We had no sense of rhythmn last night, and whilst the midfield weren't great and our 'creative' players weren't on top form - the movement up top was shocking, largely down to an extremely lethargic Shola; who was just down-right embarrassing. Hopefully we'll get Harewood back and he can play up top with Lovenkrands for the rest of the season.

So aye - as far as this season goes, it was alright - decent result. However - as if we needed any proof already - if we're going to go up... fucking hell some work needs to be done in the transfer market. West Brom are the first not-shit team we've come up against at home this season and we stuttered for large spells... these were the whooping boys last season, and they've lost players too. We genuinely will get humiliated next year.

Harper - 6.

Simpson - 4. Got torn a new one by Thomas.

Taylor - 6.

Coloccini - 6. What the actual fuck was he doing for Bednar's goal? Fucking pillock.

Enrique - 6.

Guthrie - 6. Shocking wall it was, but a beautiful strike nonetheless. Shades of Liam O'Brien - the East Stand were already chearing.

Smith - 6.

Nolan - 5. The game passed him by. Fucking horrific footballer.

Jonas - 6.

Shola - 4.

Lovenkrands - 6.

I'm not sure I agree that we were lucky to get a point last night. Yes West Brom looked a lot betteer than us, knocked it around much better. While we were awkward in posession and not in any shape as fluid as them. Having said that we created enough chances to win it, yes Miller missed an absolute sitter but we had, Carson make a great save in the last minute from Taylor FK, Jonas screw up the final ball when a goal looked odds on, A terrible off side call on Lovenkrands that would have left him 1 on 1 with the keeper, along with at least 2 blatant penalty shouts turned down.

As I said West Brom did look good, the best side we've faced all year, but they were also cynical and have their problems at the back where they do not look convincing.

I do't think we were lucky at all to get a point, a point was probably a fair result for the night but we would not have been lucky had we even won it in the end.

You make some very good points there, it really could have gone either way.

Harper - 6

Simpson - 2 (one of the worst defensive performances I've seen from a Newcastle player in recent years)

S Taylor - 7

Coloccini - 6

Enrique - 6.5 (assist redeems him for some very dodgy give-aways)

Guthrie - 7 (sublime freekick, solid shift)

Nolan - 4 (Was he even on the pitch?)

Smith - 6 (Very quiet game, especially when we needed him to break down their attacks.  However, the kamikaze shot block... :smitten:)

Gutierrez - 7.5 (Man of the Match, just, simply because he stretched their defence, he caused them problems and he looked like he wasn't scared to run at them)

Ameobi - 3 (woeful)

Lovenkrands - 7 (good header, love the guy for playing)

Carroll - 5.5 (better than Ameobi)

R Taylor - 6 (at least he tackled their right wing, unlike Simpson)

Honest to God. Just seen Bednar's goal again. Coloccini wants absolutely shooting for that. Wtf was he thinking? Fucking hell. What, as a professional centre-back, makes you just stop dead and watch a striker score a free header? Pathetic. So pissed off with that.

we were caught stone cold at the start of the half, unprofessional tbh.

West brom and the officials were out before us. They didn't have time to settle before the whistle even went .

Recently, Taylor has been playing better than Coloccini. For the whole of the season barring like the last 4 games, it was the other way round.

Taylor wasn't playing badly earlier in the season, just Colo was the one who was shining.

Love Colo this season but he was inexcusable there. He stopped for literally no reason.

I can only think that Colo opted to try for an interception, rather than attempt to win an aerial duel - which admittedly he's not very good at. He seemed to deliberately stick himself a yard in front of the striker in the hope that the cross wouldn't be accurate enough to reach Bednar and he could knock it away himself.

Unorthodox, and it can't be the best way of defending, but it's the only explanation I can come up with.

Some player ratings:

Harper 6 - Very unfortunate with the Bedner effort, could of gone anywhere. Generally did well but need to tell the defence to push out at times, we were far too deep especially from the second ball.

Simpson 4 - Probably his worst performance playing righ back in a Newcastle shirt. Struggled all night with the pace and directness of Thomas.

Coloccini  5 -  Bullied by Bednar on occassion, seems he still struggles against physical opposition. Didn't cover himself in glory for the second.

Taylor 6 - Steady away. Dealt with the threat of Bednar better than Colo.

Enrique 6 - Good defensively, going forward he was hampered by incosistant distriubtion.

Guthrie 7 - Thought he was our best player. He drifts inside exposing Simpson but that's what you get playing a centre-mid out wide. Whiped some fantastic balls into the box and frequently looked like he could create something productive, get him in the middle Chris.

Nolan 5 - When he's playing in a 4-4-2 he might as well not bother. Completely over run in the middle.

Smith 5.5 - Tried to put himself about but like Nolan overran at times. The pair of them were clearly lacking in technical ability compared to the West Brom midfield.

Jonas 6 - Yeah his distriubtion is crap but he provided a good outlet and worried the West Brom defence. Linked up well with Enrique as usual.

Shola 5 - Nothing special, fell over a lot.

Lovenkrands 6 - Good header for the goal (although the keeper should of sone better), glad the lad scored. Needs a player like Carrol next to him who will hold things up and flick the high balls on, not a big pudding like Shola.

Harper-6- No explanation really, unlucky for the second goal

Simpson-5- Not a good display

Taylor-6-Solid

Coloccini-5.5- Not a steady performance, should have done better

Enrique-6- Alright

Guthrie-6.5- Put in some good balls, left us exposed a lot, probably contributed to Simpson's bad performance

Smith-5.5- Didn't do to much

Nolan-5- Over run. Slow, un agile

Jonas-6-Good running and link up but final ball was awful again

Ameobi-5-Just sat there complaining for most of the game

Lovenkrands-6.5- Has a knack for being "there" at the right time, happy he got a goal.

I thought Harper was perhaps at fault for the first goal. he doesn't make much ground across his goal at all when he dives, if you watch carefully. Sometimes his reflexes are fantastic, sometimes his movement looks really lethargic to me.

We start every second half like that though. You'd think someone within the club would identify it as something to work on.

Betty should be sorting the fucking tactics out rather than the clueless fucker currently doing so.
