Guest taps01
£1.5m isn't a lot in today's market. And he's English Everyone else demands millions for their players. We give ours away, basically. Routledge could easily reasonably command double that. It's obviously because we have an enormous squad and we'll hardly miss... oh, wait... He always seems to be sold for about that figure though. Personally i think we are quite good at getting decent money for our players.
SEMTEX
Why would a player who has proven time-after-time that a) he's not good enough for the Premier League, and b) he isn't going to get any better... command a higher fee?
Jack Flash
£1.5m isn't a lot in today's market. And he's English Everyone else demands millions for their players. We give ours away, basically. We made Andy Carroll the 8th most expensive player ever tbf, and most other outgoing deals have been good or very good deals for us. Pardew has basically said he wont be playing Routledge so that has knocked down the price somewhat.
BlueStar
Would much rather keep him. What will we spend 1.5 million on? Cleaning the Barrack Road windows? Wages for staff at the club shop?

Cajun
If we could get double we would. No clubs have offered £3m though...
BrettNUFC
Not sure why Newcastle are so eager to get rid of Routledge to be honest, he will be on next to nothing and he's a decent squad player for his pace. 1.5 million sounds roughly his price and a swap for Taylor maybe about right but i've never really seen Taylor play, obviously watched Swansea a fair few times last season but Taylor has never stood out but not many left backs do. AyeDubbleYoo
I'm confused about our haste to get rid of him as well, he's not a regular starter for a top club but he's a decent option every so often for a midtable one.

Well actually I did think that as I posted it, I guess if the club really do think we will finish roundabout a Europa league spot then he is someone we should be upgrading. It just doesn't seem like we have that many options for the right.
Baggio
Good deal if we swap him for Taylor, we gain left back cover as well as replacing Routledge with Marveaux.

It just doesn't seem like we have that many options for the right. Options? Barton, Gosling, Jonas, Kazenga Lua Lua, Sammy Ameobi, Marvaux, Ben Arfa, some of the other youngsters, and if we can't get shot, Raylor can all do a job there surely? Seems completely pointless to me keeping Routledge as well if we feel he's had his chance and will never amount to much.
Dokko
£3m to them, £2m to everyone else.
AyeDubbleYoo
Well I could go through all of those and discuss them, but I'd say apart from Barton (if he even is) Routledge is our only dedicated right-sided player. I see what you're saying though, we probably won't miss him that much.
toptoon
Good deal if we swap him for Taylor, we gain left back cover as well as replacing Routledge with Marveaux. My thoughts exactly. Routledge simply put is a very poor Premiership player. Swap for Neil Taylor sounds good to me. As we are a little light at the back and need back up for Enrique/Enrique's replacement. As bottled dog rightly points out i would probably try all of those players he mentions and maybe the youngsters before Routledge. He's not going to even make our bench. Unfortunately although the clubs may agree a deal Routledge he will also have a big say in where he goes.

Flip
Straight swap would do me, like. Deffo. Like someone said, we get cover for leftback and already have a replacement for Routledge.
Skirge
Swansea City and Cardiff City in eight-strong race to sign Newcastle United's Wayne Routledge WalesOnline Jul 11 2011 Swansea City have joined Cardiff City - and around six other clubs - in the chase to sign in-demand winger Wayne Routledge. The Swans have confirmed they have put in an offer of £1.5m for the Newcastle United player. The 26-year-old midfielder, who has played for eight clubs already in his career, is also being linked with Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest. “We have expressed an interest in Routledge and are in discussions with Newcastle,” a Swansea spokesman said. Routledge’s agent Will Salthouse said the two Welsh clubs were among several bidding to sign the winger. He said: “We are talking about maybe up to eight clubs with an interest in Wayne at this point in time. “The interest in him is quite incredible and when you think he has helped three sides to the Premiership you know it is because players who can do that are worth their weight in gold. “Wayne is keeping his options open, nothing is being ruled out and we hope to make a decision on the future within the next two weeks. He is open minded at this point.” He added: “Wayne was very happy when he was at Cardiff. He wanted to stay. He was a real fan’s favourite there at the time but a deal could not be worked out. “It would have solved a few things if Cardiff had signed him then.” Having come through the ranks at Crystal Palace, the fast and tricky winger moved to Tottenham in 2005 in a £2m move. He made just five appearances for Spurs before being shipped out for loan spells at Portsmouth and Fulham, before moving to Aston Villa in 2008. However, he struggled to secure a first-team spot, and moved to Cardiff City on loan, before making himself a hate figure with many Bluebirds fans by snubbing a permanent move to South Wales in favour of a switch to QPR. He then moved to Newcastle, before heading back to QPR on loan. Otherwise, there's another £5m out of the Carroll pot gone.
