18-year-old forward/midfielder signs from Faroe Islands  ???

Following a successful trial in December 2009 during which he appeared in a reserve friendly against Hibernian, it's reported that United have how completed the signing of attacking midfielder/striker Jóan Símun Edmundsson.

The 18 year-old is a native of the Faroe Islands and joins from the B68 club, having previously been on trial at Manchester City.

Capped at U19 and U21 level for the Faroe Islands, his senior international debut came against France in a World Cup Qualifier back in August 2009.

Faroese TV report that Edmundsson moves to Tyneside for the rest of the current season initially, with an option for a longer deal.

What makes you think he is quality?

Good to see we are still trying to pick up good youngsters.

I'm sure it's partly on the fact that he's a young player and partly cos it's Skirge.

i'd put him in tonight instead of smith/nolan/butt or guthrie in the middle.

Yeah, but that's also true of a pot plant.

even just the pot.

To be fair, I'd put Guthrie and Smith in ahead of the pot, and the other two behind.

the pot will try to get forward more than smith and if it doesn't get injure it'll still be there after 60mins so it could well be more effective than guthrie.
