Incognito
Trons post reminds me of his classic The last time we got promoted from this division I think we won our first 10 games. I don't think we finished champions even then ridiculous though that now seems. Even the 10 game thing is wrong....we lost at home to Spuds first up and then away to Coventry, before drawing at Manchester United.
Greg
If Shearer was so good why didn't anybody want him all the time he was here? Where was the worldwide demand? In fact where was the Premier league demand? After we bought him at premium rate no club ever showed any significant interest. His best years were before he came here and we bought a busted flush. Dave/Admin somebody from RTG has hacked Trons account. right....because someone who loves the club can't see beyond Shearer? Shearer wasn't even the best Geordie to play for Newcastle in the last 20 years. Gazza and Beardsely were much better and Waddle too if he can be counted being a Mackem at heart. Those guys played for us at their prime, not once they'd blown their best years elsewhere. Gazza hasn't played for Newcastle in the last 20 years. Most people accept Shearer was a shadow of his former self for most of his time here, but from when he signed until that day at Everton he was very, very good. Vinny Green Balls
Let's just consider how it would pan out if Shearer played with the best players. I am fairly certain that his goal scoring record would have been even more phenomenal.

I still laugh at your claims that Shearer only wants NUFC to do well when he is involved.

I was there mate, unlike most of the kids on this site now. Your first sentence regarding Shearer was the closest to the truth and that's all I said in the first place so why the aggro I don't know. Shearer during his loss of form at NUFC became the PL all time record goalscorer & managed to fluke it becoming our all time leading goalscorer. SBR knew he was some player thats why he built a team around him.
Vinny Green Balls
is all that can be said. Some here worship Shearer beyond reason, and a few look for any excuse to slag him off, no matter how retarded and uninformed the argument. As far as I am concerned, Shearer was not the best player that I have ever seen, but he was the best English striker I have seen, and the best striker in Premiership history. Probably my favorite player of all time, but more for his indomitable will than for his ability. I can say with no problem that there were plenty of better players, but that doesn't take away how incredible he was...and how phenomenal he could have been if he played with a better cast of characters. Guest neesy111
We'll never see another Ronaldo or Shearer. Two different type of strikers both invaluable to there teams for different reasons. Both legends of the game.

LooneyToonArmy
Shearer's shooting, striking technique and awareness were never better than Ronaldo's, man. That's incredible bias. Ronaldo was better at creating positions to shoot from but Shearer's technique of striking the ball from close, far, volleys, no first touch... is one of the few things he had over R9. Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Shearer's volleys against Everton and Villa were wanktastic. Not sure I can think of anything similar from Ronaldo off the top of my head.

Shak
Shearer was probably a better striker of a football from distance tbh, Ronaldo was a vastly better finisher than him though.
Raconteur
TOP TIER:Pele,Best,Maradona,Charlton,Puskas,Di Stefano,Beckenbauer,Garrincha,Cruyff,Eusebio,Banks ALMOST TOP TIER:Zidane,Ronaldo,Van Basten,Platini,Rivelino,Zico,Moore,Rossi,Muller THEN:Greaves,Boniek,Batistuta,Law,Baggio,Seeler,Matthaus,Figo,Romario,Rummenigge. Shearer would get into my next section down, with the likes of Kempes.I've seen most of these on tape but Van Basten I've seen live. Any talk about "best ever" is going to degenerate into a cyber pub brawl, but that list is pretty decent and any argument is likely to be about which tier what player belongs too. I read some complaining about Dalglish's absence - for me the only omission that jumps to my mind would be Gullit, and that could be because his name is a dirty word around here...
