You know you are top club when the media goes out of it's way to tell you their not but give you as much coverage on the papers and such.

Even going down hasn't stopped them, loads of games on TV, more so then most Premiership teams, loads of coverage saying we would go down again and now loads of praise for being so good in the league.

Europe, basically - beating all comers 6/7-1 over two legs until March when we'd get a dodgy draw against a decent side and crash out.

Yeah, that was a twat, or going out by away goals that should never of stood aswell, Fucking Alkmaar.

I cried that night we played Lisbon I have to say.

Apart from the obvious, what do you miss about not being a top club?

I miss those odd UEFA cup ties against Greek teams where fans would come onto the forum and welcome us to hell, only for them to get in a crazy fight with supporters of a Macedonian team who have nothing to do with the fixture whatsoever.

Then we'd win 6-1 and someone would ban them all.

Well, if we return to being a top club, what i will miss about not being a top club will probably be the fact that you only hardly ever started shit threads like this one.

Sporting Lisbon was the hardest to take for me just for the fact I really think we'd have won it that year. Not convinced we'd have beaten Valencia had we won in Marseille, and there was still a fair way to go, plus simply not good enough, in 2006-7.

I don't know, Valencia then when a poor team from what they once were and what they are now, and we were very good. The UEFA Cup the following year I was convinced from the start that we were going to win, and we were arguably the best team against Lisbon over the 2 legs and we would of won in the final had we of got there. Unfortunatly though we missed a few good chances and well we all know what happend in the 2nd half of that away game.

that game followed by that semi-final in Cardiff were probably the most painfully days as a Newcastle supporter that i'v known, made relegation look fun.

Definatly miss European nights, always regret not going to an away match in Europe. And the big signings, I know quite a lot of people hated them but to know your club could get some of the best players out there was a great feeling.

I miss beating Spurs at WHL.  That's about it.

Really? the only thing you miss about not being a big club is beating us? not even Sunderland?

Indeed they were

I agree with you, but I remember at the time feeling much more hopeful during the 03-04 campaign. 04-05 always felt like there was a shit storm right around any corner.

Seeing genuinely talented players like N'Zogbia getting slated by our fans...not good enough for us with his headless chicken impersonations.

Nothing to do with his shocking attitude obviously.
