I don't really have a favourite player but I'm surprised by how many have Lovenkrands as their favourite player.  He looked like he couldn't be bothered half the time when he was stuck on the wing (contrast that with Guthrie who, whilst he is better in the centre, always gets stuck in when on the wing) and he's only really hit form in the last 10-15 or so games, I would've thought more would have liked Coloccini, Jonas, Jose etc.

He isn't a winger, he isn't a midfielder. He has said time and again that he is not comfortable on the wing and has been saying this since he was playing for Rangers. The lad is a forward and even when he was played on the wing he didn't look like he couldn't be arsed, more that he wasn't comfortable there. I said from day one back in January 2009 that he shouldn't be played on the wing, and that if he was played as a striker he would score goals.

 

I know he shouldn't be played on the wing but I just think regardless of whether you're decent in other positions or not you should always put the effort which, in my opinion, he didn't always do.

You can't make the same runs on the wing that you make through the middle, he isn't physically strong on the ball and tend not to beat players. Never in a million years a winger, although I confess that when he joined 14 months ago I thought it would be his position.

I think Jose is fairly exciting (especially when he doesn't just randomly boot the ball out of play) and he is consistantly quality.

 

Even his defending is exciting, even more so at this level when it is a joy to watch him owning his winger over and over again.

I'm torn between quite a few at the moment. I like my defenders best though I'd say. Taylor for his passion, Coloccini for his class and wit, and Jose for how solid he is. I like Jonas because he's a powerful, tricky player who pushes forward and Routledge is also another one who seems to becoming somewhat popular with me. Then finally, I have my old friend Shola who I've always backed and Peter Lovenkrands who went up in my estimation massively after his father passed away, etc. Harper for his commitment too....

I've thought a fair bit on this, and I have to say the player whose name I'm most pleased to see on the team sheet is Barton. His behaviour on and off the pitch has annoyed and frustrated me, but he does work hard, he takes responsibility, and he can produce those moments of skill that can open up a defence. All qualities I like in a player.

 

I know that's sad in a battered wife kind of way, but we don't have anyone else quite in his class.

Enrique, Guthrie, Lovenkrands, Carroll, Jonas, Routledge, Kadar, Krul. In that order... at least for today. Really warming to Carroll. Goals will do that.

 

Enrique has been one of my favorites since he signed. Initially, I took to him because he was discounted in the press as another shit NUFC signing. This, despite the fact, that he was obviously a very good player-- to my eyes at least. And to the eyes of a lot of posters here as well.

Sam Allardyce arrived at Newcastle renowned for his ability to sniff out a bargain and lauded for his knowledge of the European market. He departed with buys like Jose Enrique having given him a name for wasting money. For £6 million, a left-back would be expected to be amongst the best in the league; the clumsy, slow and often omitted Enrique certainly wasn't that, with midfielder Charles N'Zogbia often preferred to play out of position. It is no surprise that a left-back figures prominently on Kevin Keegan's summer wish-list.
