I dont see the point in buying him, we already have Shola.  As much as shola gets slagged off he does get goals for us. I cant see Cole getting more than Shola.

Pretty pointless transfer and as ON said, its probs just genereted by the idea that we need a number 9, ex pardew player and current team relelgated.

I'm pretty confident we aren't looking at Cole - or as confident as you can be under Mike Ashley.

can you imagine, he finally release the funds and we bring in carlton cole

backwards step if ever there was one

Wouldn't make sense on any level - little resale value and proven not to be very good in the Premier League.

The only factor is that he might be cheap, but I don't think that will be reason enough to buy him. Hopefully some other hapless club will think they'll be the ones to give his career a fresh start.

honestly compared to 35 mill Carroll, a 5-6 mill Carlton Cole seems decent enough value to me. He isnt Jesus on a bicycle but it beats having Loven and Ranger on the bench for sure. Nile cant even hit a barn door from 5 yards ( west ham anyone). Then again, 5-6 mill could buy you anything these days. Could buy you 2 tiotes or a Joe cole.. But as far as having a decent strikeforce goes, Shola isnt getting any younger and when hes injured and we play a 4-4-2, why not have carlton cole as backup or the other way around?

A lot of Pardew's interviews lately don't fill me with confidence I have to say.  Saying things like "trying to get the owner to spend" and talking to Llambias about how much will be reinvested.  We needed to spend a fair bit before Carroll left, so we should be spending at least £20m-£25m on 3 or 4new players, can't see that happening though.

If we sign Carlton Cole, I'll be forced to destroy my retinas beyond repair.

And this is coming from someone named after Shola... think on.

Aye, but Shola's our donkey.

Can't be dealing with us spending some precious Carroll money on another mule.

Thinking back i can't think of many good signings Pardew has made in his career. Yossi Benayoun is the only one that springs to mind.

I don't know much about his past signings TBH, but at a glance at his wiki page he signed Reo Coker, Zamora and Etherington for West Ham. As well as Benayoun and Dean Ashton, who would have been class apart from injuries. Even Harewood was alright for them IIRC.

What makes it worse is that HE told us that all of the Carroll money would be spent on the team/squad/club. Now he's got the begging bowl out. Not good at all. If he's honest he'll admit he hasn't  got a clue what's going on,  not that it'll happen of course
