Riviere from St-Etienne's been linked with Arsenal lately, highly-rated but only got 8 league goals. Still a possibility.

Newcastle are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to targets for fear of scuppering the deal, but it is someone other than West Ham forward Ibrahim Ba or Ivory Coast striker Gervinho – although United retain interest in both.

Lille’s Melvin Martin – France’s hottest property after some scintillating performances for his country – is also not on Newcastle’s list, which runs to four players based in Continental Europe.

I think if it was Sow there'd have been more made of it with the fact we've signed one of his team mates, been heavily linked with another, etc. Would be surprised if it's him.

So Douglas is saying this new striker bid is for a striker playing for a team described as "one of NUFCs favourite hunting grounds". Deportivo or Lille are teams that spring to mind.

PSG. (Ginola, Robert, Domi, Goma, Distin, Rozehnal...)

Call me mad, but by saying mega offer, ambitious move etc top club in Europe, could it be a huge name like Benzema? French connection?

A delusion hunch perhaps.

Sow is surely the only realistic one in France who would top the £10m barrier, isn't he? Latest on him is that he knocked back Fenerbahche, who reportedly bid £13m(ish).

Scott Brown, no place for him surely?

Douglas said he didn't think we'd be in for him. Just that we have seen him.
