Dan Gosling scored for Newcastle United yesterday as they went down 3-1 to Liverpool in a closed doors game. Both sides fielded strong teams in the match, despite the international fixtures depriving them of many big name stars. Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheick Tiote, Vurnon Anita, Gabriel Obertan and Tim Krul played for Newcastle in their defeat at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground. Coutinho, Daniel Agger, and Jordan Henderson all featured for Brendan Rodgers side, as did former Toon star Jose Enrique. Two penalties from Daniel Sturridge and a Luis Alberto strike gave the Reds a deserved win. Gosling’s goal was set up by Adam Campbell who took to Twitter to celebrate his “first assist for the seniors.” No spectators were allowed to watch the 90 minutes.
