Guest malandro
So for those who have seen him , how does he match up to Yaya Toure , Essien etc. Obviously not as good now but does he have the potential to be? Put it this way Toure £24M Essien £24m Tiote £3.5m Nolan, Barton, Smith, Guthrie, Gosling and now possibly Tiote all vying for two CM roles? Surely at least one of our current midfield plodders must be on their way out of the club. It wouldn’t be Barton (wages + reputation) Smith(wages) Nolan(Goldenboy) or Gosling(injured) so it must be bye-bye Guthrie?
Guest andrew
If we can get Tiote and HBA, that's good business Harper S. Taylor Campbell Will Jose Routledge Gosling Barton Guti Ben Arfa Carroll Krul- Colo- Raylor- Guthrie- Nolan - Smith- Lovenkrands- When everyone's fit? i put in Mike because I think he's a better defender at this level So Tiote would be a waste of money? I forgot him! Editing
Ash
tbh, who would take smith from us? tiote would be a lovely transfer, although i share kaiz's sentiments....i'd rather ben arfa. Blackburn.

madras
If this happens, the Arevalo thread will probably have been a waste of bandwith It did at least confirm we were after Tiote... Would have been nice if the club had just come out and denied it but then that may have just sparked the fires more. Does make you think that Peruvian bloke was actually telling the truth then for him to mention this. Yeah does seem to ring true. In which case we were pissing the lad around something chronic standard default though for many isn't it, if something isn't 100% true or a player isn't world class, slag it/him off as being bullshit/s***. ponsaelius
I'd be fucking livid if we sold Guthrie tbh.

Dave
To answer your question: he's a brilliant player. Extremely physically strong and remarkably technically gifted for a man with the build of a wrestler. He's only got one problem: discipline. He's always got a moment in a game where he loses it. Definitely good enough for the premiership though. From a Twente fan, he also said this though: Well you've got to pay what Twente wants for him first! Our chairman has a bit of reputation in terms of transfer negotiations. You''ll have to pay full whack (6-8 million) and you have to pay it in one go rather than in annual installments (clubs have tried that with us at which our chairman said: Who do they think we are? A bank?") So maybe it's bollocks. Finally, somewhere it makes sense.

Decky
Surely this is Smith out, if one has to go? Guthrie is better than Smith, surely Hughton sees this? A good few daft clubs would come in for Smith.
TRon
The FC Twente Chairman seems to have dropped his price quite a bit for someone whose supposed to have a tough rep for transfer negotiations.

Dave
Can't see Smith leaving after just being named vice-captain. Not unless we've received a silly bid which is hugely unlikely. More likely that Guthrie is off.

More likely that Guthrie is off. Isn't Smith pretty much vice captain by default though? Butt was captain last season but I reckon Hughton would have happily fucked him off if anyone came in for him. Hope it's not Guthrie, despite him having a similar engine to a moped he is technically one of our best players.
