Lush Vlad
CHEICK TIOTE is back in the reckoning for Newcastle United’s huge test against Manchester City – with the Toon star insisting: “We’re not afraid.” The Ivory Coast midfielder has made a good recovery from the knee problem that has ruled him out of the last three matches. And the battling engine-room warrior is hoping to be back in the fold for the trip to Eastlands this Saturday to take on the star-studded Citizens – with the Magpies’ unbeaten record firmly on the line. Tiote – who sat out games with Blackburn, Stoke and Everton – was also withdrawn from international duty with the Les Elephants. Now, the competitive and tenacious African wants to face moneybags Man City and told the Chronicle in his first interview since shaking off the injury: “The manager will make sure we are right for the game, tactically, physically and mentally, and if I am selected to play I will be doing my absolute best to keep our good run going this season. “It’s been very frustrating for me to have missed the last two games, especially as we have started the season so well. “But at the same time I was very happy for the team to have won both matches. “I watched the Stoke game on TV and was very happy to see Demba Ba score a hat-trick and for the way we defended against all their set-pieces. “It was a real team display where all the players did their bit for the team. “Then last time out against Everton I was watching from the stands and thought we deserved the three points too. “It was hard to watch because I wanted to be involved, but it was great to hear the crowd. I think they really helped the team to hang on to the lead. “Ryan’s Taylor’s goal was very special, maybe more special than mine against Arsenal!” However, Tiote accepts he faces a battle to win his place back from the in-form Danny Guthrie. He said: “Danny came in and did a very good job too. “He fitted into the team so well. It shows how good our squad is and also that even if I am fit, the manager has options to change the team. “It is good that we all have to fight for our positions in the team. Dan Gosling did well too when he came on, and he is pushing for a starting place.” Cabaye, who was subbed in United’s last game with Everton due to a groin problem, was poised to play for France tonight against Belgium in Paris, but was scheduled to fly straight back to Tyneside after the game. Tiote added: “It is always disappointing to miss international matches, especially the important ones we have just had. But I had no choice really but to stay in Newcastle and get fit, and that’s exactly what I did. “Going to Manchester City is something we are looking forward to. I think it is out toughest game yet, but we’re not afraid of the challenge. “They were incredible against Manchester United a few weeks ago and have been scoring a lot of goals, but we have the best defence in the league and we hope that will mean we can get a good result.” Read More http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2011/11/15/cheick-tiote-in-frame-to-face-manchester-city-72703-29777331/#ixzz1dmEEL5wT

David28
Will be absolutely vital. This. There aren't many games in that you need a 'destroyer' of the opponent team as much as in the next two, probably three games. Great to see he's back. TRon
Suddenly the unbeaten tag looks less under threat. If either Tiote or Cabaye are fit and we can make a central pair out of them and/or Guthrie I will be more than happy.
