Footballers do seem to be doing more weights, rather like the thought of a Jan Molby or Hatem Ben Arfa larding it around still.

Franny Lee. Actually proper fat. Never a problem with him. Cruyff smoking on the bench. That sort of thing. That's what we need back.

Never understand why players lose pace when they put on a bit of muscle. Most sprinters look much more muscular. I could understand them not covering as much ground but the pace thing is strange, not many look like they are carrying Mr Universe type muscle

Not pace.... agility he was a lot more agile when he first joined and it allowed him to get past people a bit easier.

He's lost all that now, you don't really lose pace unless your an utter moron.

He's a better defensive midfielder than Tiote, and that's not saying much. It's mainly down to him being a smarter player than Tiote, honestly Tiote has all the attributes to be a DM but hasn't the brains to know what to do. Jonas can read a game and use his muscle to win the ball and than pass it out. He offers no attacking threat and is essentially just functional in the role mind

Don't you have to be able to recieve and keep the ball under pressure to be a DM?

Tiote has virtually none of the attributes, technically and mentally.

He wasn't like that when he arrived.

Looked quite effective in the middle tonight. Played one lovely ball to Santon to set him clear down the left too.

Nearly always does in a central midfield 3, whisper it quietly though.

Gets caught on the ball too much in the premiership playing in there though, but it's by far and away he's best position. Shouldn't be near the starting 11 mind.

Give it a rest, man. What matters is, if we get the players we're targeting, he won't be getting played on the wing. He's a useful backup for the central midfield role, who won't get a game ahead of the others in that position. No amount of faux hatred and anguish will change that.

Its the same in pretty much every thread you go in. 'Doesnt matter if we get xxx because Pardew is still in charge'. Tedious as fuck.

Only fortune saved his place last season, that's conveniently forgotten. When we played Villa away, Marveaux was supposed to start ahead of him but pulled out with injury. There's also comments from Pardew in January saying we had a mouth-watering front 6 and Jonas wasn't one of the players mentioned.

Had a tremendous game at left back against Anzhi. Everyone knows the merits and demerits of starting Jonas everytime; particularly at LW. He only ever genuinely looked effective there in the Championship and every occasion against Wolves

Surely his appearances this season will be limited to the midfield "as and when" needed. Should be nowhere near the attacking 3rd.

Hopefully. I still like him as a part of a midfield trio when required. Overall he's not as bad as people say, though he offers little going forward any more.

Yeah he can certainly come into the midfield and do a job. He's "functional" more than anything these days but my worry is Pardews inability to dispense with routine in picking players he thinks should be in the team regardless of how they're performing.

How does it feel to know that, regardless of how many players we sign, this guy will still manage to notch 30 league appearances this season?

If those 30 league appearances are him playing CM due to injuries and relieving the pressure as a sub, he will be fine.
